Qns on cycling of tank

Hi bros, have a qn that's always in my mind need some of ur enlightenments. If i were to use very well seasoned LRs from a seasoned tank (eg. coralline encrusted) and to start a new cycling in a new tank, will i be able to to achieve the ANN cycle? Since the LR has good "bacteria" residing on it. If i'm able to, all i have to do is to put in a market prawn and let it rot in the tank to kickstart the Ammonia phase?

I think you're unlikely to see a full blown ANN cycle, and your tank might be "cycled" in much less time. Same thing happened with me when I started my tank, I used cured LR about 0.5kg/gallon and live sand. Threw in a piece of market prawn, but never saw a real spike of NH4 or NO2. Only the NO3 started to accumulate.

First fish went in on D3, and looking as happy as ever, getting fatter and longer than before.

But careful. Having some bacteria doesn't mean the population of bacteria is large enough to handle a sudden introduction of large numbers of LS. So be patient while adding the LS...

With good quality liverocks, really good quality one, juz measure ya water parameter after 1 month, can liao.

Add ya livestock slowly, starting with some hardy ones.

But minimum 1 month.

I nv experience a full ANN cycle before, heeeeeeee.

Its Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate. It'll follow in this manner. After which Ammonia and Nitrite is undetecable den shld we say that our cycling is over. But nitrate shld be at the low side too. Hope this helps. 2cents.

it is also known as Nitrogen Cycle.

When u cycle the tank, it is good to test the water parameters. Using time as a gauge might not be good. But then again, i cycled for 6-8 weeks before i change the first lot of water and putting in my first LS.

However, it can also "crash" the tank if the filtration cannot extract out the waste produced (although little) from the quality Cured liverocks as well, causing the rocks to have massive die off and eventually, the rocks also become useless.
