Leather coral died

Recommended Posts

My leather coral basically shrink and seems dead after 3 days since I purchased it. I have heard that it should be easy to keep. Anyone, any ideas due to wat reasons?

My fishes, feather, macroalgae are all alright. And my water parameters are within acceptable limits though my nitrate is about 40mg/L.

i think you should monitor your leather for 1 or 2 more days. if it still dosnt open up or show any polyps, it is not in good condition..... :(

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

Actually the polyps surfaces after 1 hours when I placed it in my tank. It seems to be going quite well and then after 3 days. The whole coral seems to shrink (start to have lots of wrinkles) and there are cloudy stuff emitted from it. Is it dying?

I do not have a digital camera hence cannot take a shot and give it to u guys.

Is it possible that the vagabond butterfly fish attach it?

:thanks:

Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. I have kept marine tank for around 3 yrs. I am presently studying overseas and missed the hobby very much.

Vince, i do agreed with morgan. If there is muscus, throw it away. You do not want to run the risk of it dying and causing a major pollution upset in the tank.

From my experience, i find leather coral fall under the middle housekeeping range. They need good current and food.

Vince, you do add that you have a butterfly in your tank. I am afraid you need to forgo your butterfly fish if you want to keep corals.

I hope this will help. :)

Well, my current is strong though will it be too strong for the coral?

I know about the butterfly fish hence I am not going to have a lot of corals, only coral that will not be attack by the butterfly like leather, elephant ears... anything else u can think of that is compatible and easy to keep.

:thanks:
