Effective way to caught a fish in your tank

Recommended Posts

Recently I caught most of my Damsels (but not all) with a fish trap. They are sold in LFS, even some freshwater LFS. Plastic box with sliding doors on both end. Lift open 1 end and keep it open with a toothpick, leave the trap in the tank for a few days and feed from the trap. Some fish will go in to eat, remove the toothpick and the trap door closes. But not all fishes are bold enough to go in.

fishbear, at night my fish sleep inside the rocks so very difficult to reach them.

Could you share the picture of the fish trap?

Thanks

It's true. If the sleeping location is near to the entrance of rocks, I usually try to nudge them gently out of their rock shelter, then use something to scoop them up to minimise injury.

Recently trying to catch a wrasse out of my tank due to aggression, dun wanna buy a trap and tried the "late night" catching method and it works wonder. I woke up at 3am and on all the tank lights, den use a chopstick and started peircing the crevices where the fish is sleeping and out of shock fish dart out and onto the sandbed, blurred by the lights where i hav a chance to slowly net the fish out. However after that i think i may jux be lucky cos what if the fish dive deeper into the rocks den i've no chance to catch it liao. :)

For me i used henry's method.

Drop a betta box then with a mirror hot glued it into the base of the betta box inside reflecting the entrance. Place it in there for few days, feed from the betta box (I use frozen food, so i threw it inside. After few day they some how get used to it (the betta box) and will swim in naturally into it and there i caught my clown trigger, niger trigger and 2 domino damsel @ 2 tries.

Last night I've caught a few small fishl with minerral bottle. I cut the top 1/4 of the bottle, invert the top portion to the bottle. This act as a funnel for the fish to enter. The fish is unlikely able to swim out..

Place some food in the bottle. They like to feed near the surface and I use magnet to hold the trap close to the surface..

Btw, I caught other small fish as well but release them back to the tank.. Hope it help..

Do you have to left the botter in the tank for few day?

The botter opening is too small! but if the opening is bigger, fish can come out again easily! :pirate:

I leave the bottle 15mins and caught them liao  Fish very cute. They keep trying to swim out from the side. You can try with the 1.5L mineral water bottle for bigger fish..
