Hi reefers, whats the most useful and effective way of catching unwanted crabs that is residing in the live rocks. Can see them crawling at night but my hands cant reach them...

Hi, that's easy. Crabs are greedy scavengers. The method I used to catch them is to use the chicken essence bottle (the glass type). First, u place a small piece (few mm will do) of cut raw prawn (peeled off shell) into the bottle. Then, u place the trap near the rocks which the crab is spotted. It is better to tilt the bottle slightly such that it stands at an angle, and not standing upright. Leave it over the night and wait for those greedy crabs to walk into the trap! It's that simple. I learn this trick when doing a search for crab traps in this forum, and it works very well.

Ps: the crab cannot climb out of the glass bottle bcos the inner portion of the glass is slippery. :upsidedown:

Thanks! will give it a try, but wont the fishes try to eat the prawn meat as well?
