Teco chiller thermostat temp inaccurate

Hi,

I am currently using Teco680 chiller for my 4x2.5x2 tank.

Pretty satisfy with the performance and low noise level. It took 3hours to reach 26.5°C from 28.5°C.

One problem I face is that the thermostat isn't accurate, the different is ± 1½°C.

Example I set the temperature at 27°C.

TankTemp----|----ChillerDisplay----|------Chiller

→26.5°C----------------28°C------------------ON

→26°C------------------27°C------------------OFF

→27°C------------------27°C------------------OFF

→28°C------------------28°C------------------OFF

→28.5°C----------------29°C------------------ON

Eventhough the chillertemp is set at 27°C, but the display show 28°C. Why is it still not turn ON yet?

The problem is the chiller thermostat is taking its reading from within the chiller itself.

Inaccuracy can only be minimised by placing the thermostat probe in the sump tank instead. But that involves some wiring work.

Check with Dr Chill on how to do that.

This problem is not only inherrent in Teco, it is a problem with all chillers.

Mismatching of temperature will always arise due to differences in the functions of the temperature measuring instruments. A mercury glass thermometer senses differently from a digital thermometer. For example, there was a newspaper report on the differences in temperature reading found in different thermometers instruments (such as strip, digital, glass) used to check body temperature.

The temperature contoller in Eido chiller sought to minimise the above problem by being able to calibrate the probe to match your tank temperature. Admittedly, it would not solve the problem 100%. But the temperature mis-match will be greatly reduced.

chrislwp,

The situation seems bearable as you are able to achieve 26°C in your tank despite a different reading from the chiller. No need to be unduely alarm as the chiller is able to switch on and off (from 27° to 29°) in the hysteresis of 2°C. As long as it cools your tank, bear with it.

Well. Thanks for your explanation. I am just wondering what could be the cause. After all, it's the fish and coral that have to bare with the temperature fluctuation. I just got to bare with the electrical bill..
