How to tune a CR?

Hi, may i know how to tune a CR? i have a ph probe also, when i run it the hp probe indicated 7.2 and after operate for 5 hrs still 7.2. What is wrong. i thought the ph should go down right?

Hi bro,

pH inside the CR reaction chamber should be around 6.7 depending on what medias is being used. pH in your tank should be around 8.2 depending on your lighting schedule.

If your pH inside your chamber is 7.2 after 5 hours, I suggest you increase the co2 count slightly and monitor that the pH will maintain around 6.7. Once that happens, you are consider your CR is tuned.

If you want to measure the ph of the effluent of the CR, drip the effluent into a container with your ph probe. A small one will do. Let the effluent overflow from the small container into the sump. That's another way to measure the ph of the CR effluent without having the ph probe in the CR itself.

If u put it in ur sump,I afraid that is ur tank Ph.

and it is use to measure Ph not calcium. In order to know

the amount of Calcium in ur tank ...u need a calcium test kit or

CA monitor..

I put it in the container liao, the ph is 7 so do i on the co2 and run it or let it drop till around 6.5 then tune? I check my calcium is more then 480

bro normal tank water should be 8.3 for ph.i think you better change as much as possible.are there any living things in the tank already?

if your ph probe place in your SUMP and it's measuring your tank water and it gives very low reading... you should re-calibrate your ph meter.

if your ph probe place in the sump with the container or whatever to measure your CR EFFLUENT, then you are on the right track. just slowly increase the bubble count of your c02 till your ph from your CR EFFLUENT drop to 6.7 (whatever which media you use).

Sorry for the confusion, yup ph probe in container in the sump liao, will check the calcium again then tune the ph probe.

no... you check your kh and ca and then tune your CR accordingly to the desire level you want. tune by increase or decrease your bubble count of your C02.

increase bubble count - CR ph drop, therefore ca and kh increase

what CR media are you using? you may slowly increase your bubble count... to decrease the ph of your CR therefore increase your kh to 8-10.

hmmm wad woud be best is that you take ur mixed media, divide into half, mix each half with more CA mix to less the amout of MG in your media, alternatively, throw old media and use ROWA C+, best media available:)
