red slime algae

Recommended Posts

Hi, was hoping to get some advice on how to get rid of red slime algae. They grow on my sandbed, even after I have cleaned the sandbed with a gravel filter. Blooms after leaving my MH lights on. Will cutting down exposure to MH lights help? Is there some type of medication I can dose? Help please, desperate. :(

A search on this forum will point to you some bad things that will happen if dosing the red slime remover product....

A better way is to find the roots and I think your case is likely low flow and high nutrients couple with good lightings... Think how to solve that will help in long run. For me, a little addition of rowaphos solve my situation with time....

:) Greeting :)

Tank: 4' by 2' by 2' (CR antique)

Sump: 3' include 1' refuigm

Are the LR new? I can 100% say these sand are new. Thats why the slime algae blooms. Adding anti-algae will help but it will damage the LR and if you add any corals, they will not survive. So if you plan on corals, patience to cycle the tank is the key.

Thanks for the advise. Will try to decrease lighting time and improve flow. Wont be dosing any medication yet :) Thanks again
