Dear reefers,

Kindly advise when is it time to change the DI resin? Currently, my TDS meter has a reading of 40ppm, whereas tap water in my area is at 80ppm.

Also, where is the cheapest LFS to purchase the replacement resin?

Thanks all.

I also have crystal pro. When my TDS meter starts to show above 3ppm, I change the resin coz the water seems to smell strange when the resin is exhausted.

Hi Rockyboy,

3ppm? I think my water would reach that reading within less 2 months of usage :(

hmm... according to my 2nd hand 6 stage RO/DI i have use it for 6 months (Previous owner used it for 3 month) constantly for drinking and replenishing water in tank my readings is still 0ppm. From the website that i have search, owners are required to change once it hits 15 - 20ppm.

wow barnacle, that's high... you might wan to search arounf the web... i think it's not a recommended healty range of yours.

I'm getting 65 ppm on my tap water. Below are some of the findings that i got reference from http://www.waterfiltersonline.com/tds-sources.asp

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ideal Drinking water from reverse osmosis, distillation, deionization, microfiltration, etc.. 0-50 PPM

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Often considered acceptable range for carbon filtration, mountain springs or aquifers 50-140 PPM

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Average tap water. 140-400 PPM

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hard water. 170 PPM or above

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Less desirable 200-300 PPM

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unpleasant levels from tap water, aquifers or mountain springs. 300-500 PPM

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The EPA's maximum contamination level. 500 PPM

Manage to dig up this old tread & have a question regarding DI resin:

When the DI unit is not in use, would one extent the lifespan of the resin by pouring out the water from the resin chamber?

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question :paiseh: , but hope someone more knowledgeable can throw some light onto this.
