Wonder u have experience with your seahorse having bubble inside it's body. I can see the outer most layer of skin contain some bubbles. That's why it's always floating on the surface.

It use to live in my refugium, where there are lots of bubble formed on the macroalgae. I believe it has intake these bubbles, cause it disability to sink. Those bubble doesn't seem to dissolve easily, it's those 3mm diamater size of bubble that we usually see on the macroalgae.

Do you know the cure? (beside using a needle and poke a hole to remove the bubble).

Got 风油 for marine??

.

Anyway I dont see bubble around the belly. Infact it's around the back of it. Probably the whole seahorse is filled with bubble already.

I even afraid to use a needle for my pimper, this time will be a challenge man.. anyway I am not the one to feel the pain.. Will seahorse feel pain?

BUt those bubble is like a bead, probably need some massage in order to get it of it. Dont think it will survive long already..

Hi,

Lace the bubble with needle is not going to help, it will add secondary infection to it. Try to isolate it in a separate tank with only slight aeration and in the meantime try to find Diamox if possible. Diamox is a tablet which is use to counter high altitude sickness for human. It will take about a few days for the bubble to subside and reoccurance of problem is possible. You should try to reduce the fine bubbles in refugium using maybe a sponge or foam tie around it. Remove any powerhead if any.

"Diamox is a tablet which is use to counter high altitude sickness for human." - Is it too strong for the seahorse?

I am sharing my refugium water with my main tank. I am afraid it's too strong for my fish too. Is it safe for coral?

Removing bubble is quite impossible unless I switch off my light for the macroalgae whereby photosynthesis couldn't take place.

Hi,

It's best to isolate sick seahorse to a hospital tank because medication irregardless of what type will somehow affect the main tank in a way. Diamox don't really affect the seahorse from my experience. Break a quarter of Diamox, crush it into powder and mixing it with seawater before adding to hospital tank. Regarding bubble problem, what I am referring to is whether any return outlet from your main tank or any powerhead in the sump is creating all this bubbles. I don't think macroalgae gives out alot of bubble, it could be from your sandbed. Take a look first.

Thanks for your advise for the Diamox.

I am very sure the bubbles formed are the effect of photosynthesis. I do not have any powerhead in the refugium tank, neither do I have DSB in it. water is very calm.

Seem like those 1-3mm diameter bubble are hard to dissolve. The seahorse could be taking in those bubble when it's eating the copepods.

Now every 1-2 days I got to disturb the macroalgea to release the bubbles. Think I need to trim down cause it's growing too much already, furthermore cyano is attacking too. There are cyano bubble as well.

Use to be very clear, and algae well-control.

Now the glass surface, the little sandbed, the LR, even the pipe are full of algae.

More durable than the others...but you got to watch out for tangs in your tank as it is a delicacy to them...Mine usually last only about a month because of my five 'pigs'...although I also give nori...

But watch out for those light brown hair-like algae when buying them...I usually lightly brush them clean and turn them upside down to remove further before buying...but be cautious as some lfs dun like it... :P

Hi,

Normally I just pluck out the ones with hair algae and throw it away. Too troublesome to to clean it as the strand may be damage in the process or some stray hair way escape cleaning and regrow back, thus outbreak of hair algae. New baby sprout usually grow on the rock after some time. :D

oic.. never specify properly.. :D

Let us work together to preserve the world for our children to inherit by being responsible to our surroundings. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, bubbles and memories.

Sorry for the confusion, next time I be more specific.Below is the specific name:

i) Red Bamboo - Crasspies Species

ii)Grape - Caulperpa Racemosa

iii)Fern - Caulerpa Sertularioides

iV)Banana - Codium Species

v)Green Plant - Caulerpa Species

Lucky I never say banana else quries will be on whether what colour to use and size?? :D<_<:heh:

It's a pity that there is no identification section for marine species in SRC, else it helps beginner to understand and look for it easily. Maybe AT can look into it  . But don't arrow me :P
