SRC Member blacknails Posted November 14, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 14, 2003 Erm.. yeah, actually I've attempted to keep corals with your amount of lighting before as well.. They managed to survive but until I increased the lighting but alot, I never really got to see the potential of how my corals can thrive and even propogate... So yap, I would really advise on you spending a lil extra on your lighting cause it's like super important to corals!! The fast moving thing? Unless you give us a description on it I think it can be anything at all.. But if it really happens to be an unwanted crab or mantis shrimp, then certainly you would want to remove it.. Just my 2 cents worth..
SRC Member tansh Posted November 14, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 14, 2003 Just imagine I use 1X55W n 2X24W PL daylight for my 2ft tank still I think not enough athough my corals open up very nice,if got $$$ i will 4 150W mh light. Just curious coz I see that most Jewel tanks have a well-covered lid.

Dispar_Anthias
Yah with that kind off lighting, yes the coral will survive for song time, but definately not long
lightningstrike
i've juz bought the lights about 2 wks back, would be a pity to let it go now........ moreover, i'm currently waiting for updates from eaquanature on the T5 retrofit on juwel tank. as juwel tank uses original lights cannot anyhow retrofit. thks for the advice anyway, will be getting about 5kg more LR. Wah... I really think that your lighting is pretty strong already!! I use 2 55watt PL bulbs for my 2 ft tank and my corals look pretty happy.. hehe.. May I ask like how much lighting is too much lighting? I read that there IS a recommended limit for Coral Reef Aquarium lighting right? Would metal halide be too strong for Marine Aquariums? No the more lighting the merrier, thats no way yuor lighting can be compare to sun light..... BTw some coral cannot stand too much light for example mmushroom so if you keep them under MH try to place them near the bottom of the tank.
