HI ALL, I AM NEW TO NANO TANK, WOULD LIKE TO SEEK UR HELP.

I INTEND TO KEEP A SMALL TANK. LESS THAN 1 FEET, WILL BE KEEPIN CLOWNS ONLY. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW DO I GO ABT DOING IT?

One feet tank wont be stable in this hobby. You will have nightmares. Why not start a 2ft tank instead? Only slight bigger. Start with a hydrometer, 2ft tank with 25kgs LR and best with a small skimmer and pump. It should be cheap and affordable on fish only tank.

Nano Tank like 1ft is tough but not impossible.

I kept my 1 ft nano long ago with only 1 canister filter. I used bio-home to house bacteria. Water change is a must bi-weekly. Rinse out of the canister with tank water at least once a month. Do not use tap water, it will crash your tank.

No coral if no chiller/Aircon as there is impossible to maintain light and temp. Using Fan will suck up all the water like mad.

Get a pair of more hardy clown, and they are a beauty to watch.

Equipment:

30G Corner Tank with 10G Sump, 2 x 24W artinic T5, 1 x 24W 10K, 1x 24W 20K, 3" Grade 0 sand & Live rocks, Activated Carbon, Bio-home, 2 x Seio M620, Hailea 1/2HP Chiller, Redsea Pro Skimmer

Live Stock:

Turbo Snail x 1, Green Mandarin Dragonet X 2, Blue Tang X 2, True percular x 2, 1 x Algae Bleenie, Clarke clown x 2

Reef:

1 x 2" Blue maxima, Red/Brown/Purple Mushroom (Discosoma), Pink Ricordea yuma, A little colony Brown/Green common Zoanthus, Red/Pink/Green US Zoanthus, Eagle-eye Zoathus, 14 Branch Goniopora Pandoraensis, 1 Starburst Polyps, 3 + 2 Branch Frogspawn, 4 Blasto, palythoa, Cheato

RIPs (Since June 2005):

1. Sabae clown (KO by Clarke clown) 2. 1 branch melted frogspawn 4 branch 3. Golden maxima (Ripe the base off rock by me) 4. Algae Bleenie x 2 (Starvation) 5. Blue Maxima x 1, 2 x Maxima, 1 x frogspawn, rics (Overtemp...)

Old 30G Corner Tank.

Restarted 30G Corner Tank.

yeah but usually 1ft only stocks so little fishes. Everyone not satisfied and buy few more so this nightmares will happens. Basically this is the reason why all the professionals advise "no". At first ppl will be hardworking changing water and top up. After certain time, got lazy and the nightmare begins. Using fan to cool down is workable and I have done that. The cons is like what Naka said water evaporates fast like mad. You will be sicked to top up all the time and the amount of dust in the tank and fan.

Believe me, 1ft wont work as I had started this hobby 6-7 yrs ago using 2ftX1ftX1ft tank with fan. At that time housed only 2 small clowns, 2 small damsels and 1 small shrimp which turned me having nightmares all the times. Then fedup and changed to a 2ftX1.5ftX1.5ft tank and things become stable but still need to change water often as nitrates easily shoot above 120ppm within less than 2weeks with no overfeeding.

Before using tap water must ensure tap water has no chlorine or else not only crash the tank, it will kill all the good bacterias and every living thing in the tank. No need to buy anti-chlorine, just let the tap water stagnant in a bucket for 24 hrs and all chlorine will be evaporized
