You can add rubber gaskets to prevent leakage. I'm using them on the connectors for my tank.

for this part I prefer to use pipe glue. silicone will loose out after 1-2 yrs. best get those fittings with O-rings.

Hi Bro, make sure you have a thick styro foam place below your tank as this type of glass cracks easily Have you ever tot of drilling the side instead of the base?

Just to share my exprieneced. I have driiled the overflow outlet at the side of my 2ft nano. i.e. about 2" from top.

so I dun need to build internal chamber. you can add additional holes for more outlet flow or inlet from top of behind. rather drilled from bottom. the advandage is reduce hazard in case any leakage from fitting. just my 2 cents.
