Dear all.

Well after back from overseas trip noticed most of my red colour pratas turning pale/pink.

The bio colour pratas are doing fine-open big big and the rest of corals seams to be ok too.

no fishes that disturd pratas. mostly tangs.

Did 20% h20 chg using distilled h20 + marine enviroment salt. not much of inprovement yet. what must i do to bring the colour back?

im not using cr and only hv ati tubes(4x) lights. running twin fr + api702 + 1/3hp artica chiller with sump.

Before h20 chg did some test on the h20:evrything seams to be norm except nitrate 50.

Placed most of my pratas that got effected either on mid or lower section of tank.

Will target feed when in town on mixer like cyclo + brine+mysis shrimp + premix food bought from hkg. Usually they will open up big big..The rest of red corals are ok.

What did i miss out??

is there anything that i need to focus on more to keep a healthy prata?

im still very new in keeping lps and in experimental stage. wonder will ozoniser causes prata to blench?

Just leave it if still feeding, it takes months to recover. I have one was badly bleached and making good progress after 2 months.

hi thedidavid.

thx for responding. may i know do you add any addictives to your tank and how often?

you target feed your prata?how often and with what?

i usually will target feed with mixer of cyclo+brine+mysis+..when ever im in town.

if one usually target feed evry once a week every alternate day and suddenly stop for awhile will it causes harm to the corals?

thx for your time.

calcium, strontium n other trace elements must always b present n it has got 2 b feed with meaty stuff inorder for it 2 b healthy.

2 y its losing its colour could b few factors lack of feeding, iodine n above mentioned stuff.

lighting play apart in their photosynthesis n of certain times of photo period is required.

i didn't use any ozoniser so i can't comment but i emphasize more on filtration coz if u having a vry good filtration it will do justice to ur corals n fishes .

I didn't target feed my coral only feed it with henry reef gourmet, cyclopeeze, and rotifer from aquapharm. Like bro Storm said I also dose my tank with trace element, iodine, strotium, ca, mg amoutndepend on the test result.

Goodluck....

the problem with you red pratas' is that they have too much light. Red pratas cannot take too much light generally, however they do vary in requirements depending on where they were collected. Try putting them right at the bottom preferably in shaded places. Since its already bleached, it will take some time.

What I want to advise, mostly done by these 3 nice reefers.

I would like to add. After you had done all the required things, you have to be patience and monitor the progress. If its going stable, means good. It will change back to its colour after months. Just becareful not to add too much iodine which promotes algae growth. Just dose to minimum requirement. Dont feed yet when it is unstable. Ozoniser will makes no difference. I do prefer to let them have medium lighting and medium flow during recovering state.

I did this to recover bleach prata:

1. Place prata in sump as it has less lights, lower flow, less stock and no stinting coral.

2. Leave it undisturb, just target feed very small prawn.

3. For 1 weeks it will retreat show skeleton, afterwhich it will open big.

4. 1-2 months to restore to full glory.

Bear in mind that different color prata has different light requirement. Brighter the color, more lights required. If you see tint of green in prata means it need a higher variation of lights.

If your prata does not do good in main tank, chances it will never be.

Even Henry from ML bleach his red prata, I guess you are doing well... So just be patient with it recovery and dun disturb it too often once you change it location.

Hi stormtropper + thedidavid + cowqum + reeftask + nakazoru.

Well thx alot for the advises.

I shall do whats mentioned by you guys and see how it goes. Target feeding can be a problem for me cos my job requires me to travel and sometimes can be as long as 8days.

Anyway ill try my best to target feed each time im in town.

Saw some wonderful red pratas at harq 2days ago and so tempted to buy but did not cos wana ensure my current one are ok 1st.

Wonder farm/lfs will inject ink into pratas? If yes how long will the ink last and how to tell b4buying?

Have a great week end and happy shopping.

As I said I dont know. I know only how to see anemone dyed. Why anemone? Because at that time I was very addicted to marine, starting time la. So surveys anemone for 2 yrs and owned many anemones. At that time always remain 2 anemones in a 2ft tank. Later when upgraded to 5 ft still have 1 anemone for 1 yr plus before give up. So I dont know how to see other corals dyed. But usually I see the colorations must be natural and balance first before proceeding.

Did you use timer for you main light? I had experience before with my NC24 prata bleached because I was away for 1 week and forgotten to set the main light timer. So light off for duration 1 week, prata bleached badly takes about 3 months to get the color back.

Dear Bro

I am not using timer for the main light, but my wife turn the lights on from morinng 9am till night 7pm, but I am not using chiller and the water is about 30-31 degree now.

Can it be the temperature that cause all the corals to bleach>

Please advise

Thank you

<_< It's likely that your tank temp is the main factor causing the bleaching. I suggest that you should get a decent chiller to start with.
