Hi all,

I am in the stage of finalizing the details with GEO on my 6 footer. Would like to share my ideas with fellow reefers here, and get some feedback as well. Hope to get some tips before the tank maker starts his job.

Hood requirements

The tank will be mainly LPS and fishes, no sps yet.

T5 lights - Starting with 6 tubes(5ft), future total 8 tubes

Pump - OR6500 + E1262(current)

Chiller - Starmex 1hp with copper coil

Skimmer - HNS smallest outsump model(current), future maybe deltec

Ca reactor (future)

Wavemaker - SEIO620(current), Wavebox or tunze (both in the future)

Piping - 2 return and 2 durso outlet

Others - no going to run FR, denitrator, UV. Banking on weekly water changes.

My current 3 footer, IOS.

your 620 in your new tank will be like nothing. At least a 820 if not a 1100 imho.

Agreed that a 620 is nothing in such a big tank. Since there is a $$ crunch now, got pump to circulate better than none, at least for the time being

Bro, why not get a Red Dragon for the return? The Red Dragon might push more than the 2 pump and consume lesser electric than the 2 pump would have.

The opening of the hood to allow access to your tank; you might wanna check the clearance between your ceiling and the hood's opening.

Also, even if the hood's are open, whether the lights are in the way.

For me, as i normally hand-feed my corals, I'll prefer easy access to tank.

Wat is the difference between a red dragon pump as compared to tat of the OR/ehiem pump? Is there any major pros and cons to the red dragon?

I have not used such pumps, and is aware that it is an outsump pump.

On the other hand, plan is to maintain 2 returns for redundancy of pump failure.

Ah...checked clearance to top no problem when lid is concern.

As for the space left after installation of lights, my own calculation of the spacing is ok. Need to discuss further with tank maker for confirmation. Agreed it can be a pain in the "a**" when it comes to daily maintenance like feeding.

Good news to share!

Confirm design with tank maker yesterday, setup will be in early Nov.

A few things not yet settle though:

1. should put lid at hood or not

2. electrical powers points and usage of CB

3. should spend on D701 or use back my existing hns (under powered for 6ft)

4. should spend on D701 or get a Deltec CR (hate the problem of chemistry inbalance)

Consideration 3 & 4 both involve $$$ which i am still hesitating after spending so much at 1 go.....
