How do we select a healthy snail?

Hmmm... got 3 kinds there.

I bought one each. From the reciept, think they are Trochus (aka turbo??), Nerite and Cowrie.

Got a question though hope the experts can help.

I bought the Cowrie but till now cannot find it in my tank liao. :(:(

Found out that they are nocturnal but should at least see it moving about rite? Is it dead? Anyone has any experiences with them??

How many snails are needed in a tank about 3 feet?

These snails are the first "living things" that are introduced into my tank, can;t help but look at them the whole night when i am back from work... hahah GOT to admit they are real interesting! ahha anyone agrees??
