Guys

Need some advice on the care of the brain corals. I have purchase one yesterday and would like to know what is best for them. This is not the open brain type, but th ordinary type. I know it need Calcium, but what about light and current wise? Should I fed once weekly frozen mysis to it? Anyone who has keep it do share with me your experience. The brain that I have is greyish and is flourcent green where the mouth is. Thanks.

It will need to be a bit more specific as to what 'Brain coral' it is because it is a very common common name. If it is not an open brain, then it might belong to the Favites or Favia species. They are generally hardy for LPS, conditions are typical of all the other hard corals. The amount of light required depends on the colour of the coral, less light for more brown specimens and higher light for fluorescent green ones. Current is moderate to high but will not tolerate being shot at directly by a powerhead.

Looks like either a Lobophyllia or Symphyllia, but chances are high it's the latter. No worries, requirements are similar.

Needs moderate light and water movement, doesn't require MH but will do better with it. Not aggressive. Water quality will have to be good, at least calcium, alk and phosphate wise, but not very sensitive to less than ideal conditions. Will receive meaty food if placed near the many mouths. Angels love to eat this coral.
