Durso Piping

Hi all,

The sound from the tank is killing me, and i would like to install a durso pipe to get rid of the noise...

However the overflow area is a bit limited and if i used fittings that are the size of the 'to sump' pipe there would be no space to fit the durso piping

I was considering using a reducer, such that i can use smaller size fittings which should be able then to fit into the overflow area

Will the durso pipe still work in this case? <_<

What do you guys think??

any advice?

it depends how much water volume is going through. If too small, your water might not able to go down fast enough. You can try and see if its OK. For my experience, if slightly smaller, the water level will raise slightly and thus prssure will push the water volume down. If your tank water level is still far away, you can perhaps try it.

Well my main tank's water level is almost as high as it can get....

so its a bit scary.....

i guess i will try it with some smaller fittings.... and hopefully it will work....

i think my 'to sump' pipe is the 1inch across kind... gotta go home measure..

will come back with the measurements soon...

thanks reef....

anyone else??

cause i first time doing durso pipe... so not too sure...

or u guys have any other ideas??

If space is an issue you can try adding a control valve at the end of the outlet to control the down flow. First shut the valve to raise the volume (height) in the overflow compartment to the same level in the main tank and then adjust the control valve till the level maintains at the desired level(return pump is on all the while). This takes a little practice to get the right flow and must always make sure that the level don't go upwards as it will flood your tank. So when the level is maintained, you'll never have a waterfall effect.

If you have 2 down pipes that will be the best. 1st pipe with opening at the base of your overflow compartment with a valve control and the 2nd pipe with the opening extended to the highest water level with no valve control. This prevents flooding if you cannot tune the downflow on the 1st pipe.

Hope this helps :P
