Algae infestation?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

need your advise on whether I have an algae infestation problem on hand..

Background :

Tank - 24 gallon JBJ nano cube

Chiller - Resun CL280

Skimmer - Nano fission skimmer

Temp - 28 degrees

LS - 1 yellow tang, 2 clown fish, 1 algae blenny, 1 blue devil, 3 snails, 2 sand star

1 orange star 1 blue star plus live rocks + sand

Problem :

My sand has been turning green in recent weeks with lots of tiny bubbles.

The algae blenny has been eating the algae but it prefers to eat those on the glass.

Another possible culprit is over-feeding because I've been feeding the yellow tang a piece

of seaweed each evening and that yellow tang has been giving out waste like there's no tomorrow.

Already tried changing the water to reduce the algae but its only helping slightly.

What can i do to improve the situation?

would adding a blue/red leg hermit crab to the tank help to control the algae problem

and reduce the yellow tang waste material?

Pls advise.. many thanks in advance.

pls check on ur phosphate and nitrate..

yeah, you heard what the man said. I think silicate had increased too.

Your tank is only 24gallon, so its very small and so even a few live stock will create havocs.

Try to upgrade with a bigger tank or a sump and increase old LR.

Add some rowaphos somewhere in your filteration system. The situation should improve in coming weeks.... if not, control your feeding... tank too small to cope the loads....

PS: ensure some flow at bottom helps too....

:) Greeting :)

Tank: 4' by 2' by 2' (CR antique)

Sump: 3' include 1' refuigm
