Hi i am new to marine tank, i seem most of the sump tank for marine tank only have coral chip, bio ball or sand bed. Seldom see biohome, bio house or cermic ring. So can i put bio home inside?

I think bio home more for freshwater tank. Coral chip and bio balls not advisable as they become nitrate source later on.

Oh i see, then must put what media inside the sump? sand bed? my main tank will be putting sand liao so sump still need sand?

Some people partition their sump with a refugium, implement a Deep Sand Bed for more biological filtering. So can't really tell you what is best to put into your sump. For me, I put in LR and cheato. Maybe you can take a photo of your sump and post it here then the people here can give you advice.

My sump will only be ready and install on friday, so me thinking what to buy to put inside. I got around 4kg of bio home plus, thinking if cannot or no point putting inside then i go sell it away.

bio home is more for aro and koi.. marine so far only seen 1 bro using..

I have used in my sump for but not suitable. after many years bio home will be so soft to handle with hand. So bio home is not suitable for marine

Welcome..... Go and read the members tank and spec section, read as many threads as possible and see how people setup up their tank and get it cycle etc.

IMHO, bio home/bio balls/coral chips/liverock serve the function of increasing the surface area for bacteria to colonise and turn harmful ammonia and nitrite into some less harmful, nitrate. As for bio home turning soft in reeftask's tank, probably his ph is acidic and hence "melt" it after a long time.

I will think that all equipments need maintainance to operate in its optimum level and hence cannot ignore the cleaning part of bio ball/coral chips/filter floss/etc. Eg. u have to clean and wash the skimmer cup as part of the routine, right?

i always measure pH, between 8.1 to 8.4 so I wont say acidic.

I have 1 kg of Biohome in my tank for more than 3 years.So far no issue.

BioHome has more surface contact than coral chip,bioball,or ceramic ring.

I kg of BioHome has a contact surface that is more than a basketball pit

I am using BioHome too which is in the sump for 3 yrs.

I put in 5 kg of bio home inside the sump liao, to kick start the cycle.

Will check the reading to see if it work after someime.
