SRC Member anakjoh Posted November 11, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 11, 2003 Just want to share the latest skimmer I saw in the most established marine LFS in KL. The brand is MACRO. It's a external hang on. It comes in a long rectangular box 2 ft in height from tip to toe ie top of collection cup to base. The bubbles are really fine and in one day's operation, one cm ++ of thick gunk was collected. There was a bonus too in that the half portion works as a filter - mechanical or biological your choice. What's really cool is that the same box is designed for exchangeable functions as a denitrator or calcium reactor, the specific parts are sold separately. What's more it's quiet and as the controlling valve is external, you don't get your hands wet. Current Price : RM590.

blueheaven
i think my weipro gunk more than your macro. one day only can fill my finger with gunk.(when i clean the cup that is) Quote But if you tame me, we shall need each other. SRC Member arcanehacker Posted March 9, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 9, 2004 i think my weipro gunk more than your macro. one day only can fill my finger with gunk.(when i clean the cup that is) cannot like that compare lah.. you may be overfeeding, have more LS, etc, etc.. Only way to test is using the exact same tank specs and number of LS. Or test both in a same tank. Quote Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? SRC Member Nautical Posted March 9, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 9, 2004 Careful when comparing products or any reviews. To cover yourself, use a term like "all things being equal" . Otherwise opposite side (or those on the ring side) may throw gunk.

SRC Member steven Posted January 12, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted January 12, 2005 I fully agree that this brand of skimmer is excellent. IMO,Needle driven skimmer are the best. It provide lot of oxygen and large skimmer rate. a half cup for 3 to 4 days of operation. I bought mine AS- 100 P for a litle under S$100. Normal price was S120+

I have only 5 gobies and 5 blenny and feed only alternate day. I overdrive the skimmer. Mine is Venturi, so manual said 2,500L/hr, I drive with 4,800L/Hr and I get full neck MUD in collection chamber and 500ml of BLACK THICK COFFEE every 3 days. tivoli
Hi bros, I tried the Macro skimmer for two hours. I don't like it. The bubbles output from needle wheel pump is dependent on the depth where you place the pump. So to get good skimmate you would need to adjust the pump to tune the skimmer. I had the Macro skimmer running along side with my H&S Skimmer in the same SUMP so I could compare the bubbles Production of the skimmer in the water chamber. My verdict is : I return the Macro skimmer the next day. For me I will never recommend the Macro skimmer. but then you may be able to tune the Macro by adjusting the depth of the pump. Cheers. weileong
Cannot look at skimmate color one Don't believe go dry the skimmate and weight it. Best way still to judge the tank condition. Nutrient levels low, no nuisance algae Quote Weileong's 4ft tank Part I Weileong's 4ft tank Part II

Nutrient levels low, no nuisance algae yah i totally agree on this.... Also to judge how good a skimmer is... user friendlinest and workmanship also plays a part(all this constantly overlook by reefers when in skimmer debate)

tivoli
Hi bros, 1) the only way to correctly judge whether a skimmer is doing the job is to see the thickness of the foam and size of the bubbles in the chamber of the skimmer. Hence Alan Seah mention that good quality skimmer does the job of reducing the NO3 and PO3 and all the gunk. 2) The quality of skimmate is a by product of the foam and production of the bubbles. 3) Bad quality bubbles foam production will produce bad result in tank and is not dependent on the colour of the skimmate. 4) Hence Macro is in my view not a quality skimmer cos the bubble foam production pales in comparison with H&S skimmer. Colour of skimmate is irrevelant. 5) To answer Nicken's question. You can vary the depth of the Macro pump in the sump if the depth of water in the sump allows you. ie. If the depth of water in sump is 20 cm ... you can vary the depth of pump from 1 to 20 cm. For Macro ... the higher the better cos the pump got no power... 6) Nothing personal just a review of the Macro skimmer ... so folks reading this can go compare other skimmer and spend money of quality stuff.... maybe a second hand H&S skimmer may be a better bet. Cheers
SRC Member boxfish Posted January 14, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted January 14, 2005 Hi, what's the recommended pump for MACRO? OR can I know the pump that your are using for your model? very disappointed with my AquaC urchin with maxijet1200.... maybe time to overdrive
ivanlaw
Hi By reading this tread, i have solve my problem. I have bougt a macro few days ago. I found out that when I off the return pump, the water in the macro keep rising untill it flood the collection cup. According to you guys explaination that the water level depends on the depth of the pump. Thats means that when I off the return pump the water level i the sump increase and that cause the water in the macro to rise as well. In the end i have to connect the 2 pump into the same switch so that I switch off both pump together. I think it is not a good designin this area.
