hammy
What temperature will you guys set your chiller to & Why? Hi i set it at 25.4. it is a personal preferance . dunno whether is it true, at lower temperature , (1) the amount of dissolve oxygen is higher (2) algae growth is not as fast. (3) metabolism of coral are lower, thus slower growth. tangerine
mine at 26C. simply cos' did not want the difference in temp to be too great if anything untowards happen and the chiller dun operate.
SRC Member Underwater Posted July 18, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted July 18, 2007 Prob l'm the odd one out...i set at 27'c & 29'c since my corals are doing ok previously at 30'c when i've no chiller. Also 'cos of global warming now, ambience/tank temp rises pretty quickly in my tank and chiller kicks in more often --> higher electrical bills. mansiz
Mine I set it at 26 and kicks in at 28. Actually want to set it at 27 and kicks in at 29, but afraid that 29 might be too high. But mine kicks in quite often.

Hi Mag, to my understanding Artical chiller factory standard setting is 0.5. that means you set at 27.5, it will kick in once it hit 28.0 and stop at 27.4. but according to your case something is not right, give them a call and ask to them to check on your chiller, their service is good. as i am having a 1/5 hp, not sure abt your, but understand from the technician that should be the case. The lowest point i set is 27'c and the highest point is 29'c. It's 2 degrees range. When the tank temp rises to 29'c and registered by the chiller thermostat, the chiller will kick in. Then when the chiller chilled the tank to 27'c, the chiller will cut off. Hence, my tank temp will always be between 27'c to 29'c. Not sure abt Artica cos mine is a different chiller and cannot set temp at the decimal point level. Maybe you can set at 27.0'c and 28.0'c? But if you set less than a degree will make yr chiller kick in and cut off very very frequently. This wld harm yr chiller in the long run and escalate yr electricity bill alot. Actually i was told if you're not keeping SPS, you need not set the range so close until less than 1 degree. A 2 degree range is good enough for LPS. Bro, I own an artica.Have you calibrate your chiller display meter? Arctica set to cut in at .5 degree difference.. I use an external temperature controller and set at 26.5 and 27.5. So far very accurate.I prefer the 1 degree different from the 1/2 degree different.
