Help needed to build DIY plenum

Dear fellow reefers,

I am currently using a DSB in a remote sump without plenum. I am thinking of employing the use of a plenum for better denitrification?

Read somewhere that it is possible to DIY the plenum using egg crates? Does anyone have an idea how to employ these egg crates and what are the points to consider? Is it also possible to use an old underwater filter plate with fine mesh overlaid to hold the coaser sand before laying over the fine sand?

Is it true that there should be carbon dioxide in the plenum area and if so, does it need to be bubbled in there somehow?? :o

I am quite clueless as to how I should proceed. :eyeblur:
