I think LemonLemon meant that all angelfish are not suitable for beginners, but if die die must try angel, then koran is the easiest of all angelfish.

Yea >.< sorry for mis-typing. If you are a newbie at the hobby, dun attempt angelfish. But if u have some experience on the hobby liao, but noob with angelfish, then if u really wanna try angelfish, koran angel is the easiest IMO. some ppl think that other angels are easier, but i think koran quite easy. But grow big liao ugly.... grey grey...

Many years ago where marine keeping wasnt popular here. There were classification of beginner fish. Today all bro in this forum are doing great job, reading articles, research and ask around that make all of them more advance. Even if you are not beginner, do you think you can keep a common clown alive? To me there's no more beginner fish. Either can keep or leave it in the ocean special. For beginner,

1. When you set up a tank, you require lot of patience, cycling your tank, getting the optimum water chemisty balance then talk about fishes and coral.

2. Once everything right, plan what you want to keep and how many fish your tank can hold.

3. Is the type of fishes you love to have suitable for your set up? Ex: Angels in a reef tank? Lion fish with

your existing goby?

4. Selection of fish, do research before purchase.

5. In this forum, a lot of very helpful bros include sis will advice and help.

* Patience is a key to success in reefing. Seek and you will find( if face problem, ask around and you will

find the answer)and ask you will be given.

Keeping angel fishes, understand their characteristic, behaivour as well as disease. Koran can be easy if your tank water quality meet it requirement.

This is very good advice. And if you do want to buy angelfish, please ask where it came from. USUALLY specimens from idonesia and phillipines do not do well. most are cyanide caught... unfortunately. Angels from hawaii or christmas island fare better. the difference in handling and shipping of angelfish greatly affects their aquarium lives. Most angelfish are delicate shippers and when they get damaged during catching and shipping, most do not recover. Also, i think angelfish from the sub genus euxiphipop should be given a rating of 2 rather than 3. Alot of them are quite hard to keep. The genus includes majestic, blue face and six barred. I think the easiest out of these 3 will be the blue face... I would give them a rating of 2 rather than 3. But ur right, individuals subject to water quality. so it depends, u can rate 2 or 3. But overall, if ur water quality is lousy, all ur angelfish, no matter what subgenus, will be rated as a 0-1.

Not all fishes are fully affected by cyanide. A diver will dive in with a bottle cyanide and squeeze and spray around. Those are very close to the chalky colour, and then this fish will likely goner. If they are able to make their way to our shore, then look at it coloration and behavior. The coloration can be very striking but the fish look stunned and breathing quite rapidly.No curious expression at all. However, those are not much affected, (with the current in the sea, the cyanide with flow with the current and get lesser and lesser) fishes still able to survive. In Brazilian and Hawaii, I was told by my American’s friend that they use a kind of liquid with bamboo pole T??? Approve by WWF that is not harmful to the fishes. But why sometimes Fishes from this area cannot make it? The packing from that area in a small bag travel hours to our LFS, ammonia increase and it affect the fishes, which is harmful to them, causing their internal infection. A reputed exporter will stop feeding them 2-3 days before shipping them here. Price$$$.

Euxiphipop are under pomacanthus family. They are not difficult to keep. Again water quality! The easiest are the six barred also very aggressive, follow by blue face and majestic. As long as they are proper quarantine, and feeding well, then it not difficult to keep them, provided its tank mate not harassing them too much. Whether your tank is 2 ft, 3 ft or ..., the rule is every 50 liter of water = to 3 inches of Fish.

Angel fishes attack another angel is by recognizing the shape, colour and size. Ex: Juv blue ring, koran, emperor have the similar colour and shape, most likely this fish will attack one another to death. Queen, king blue has the similar juv shape, and marking too. Unless your tank is hugh. For my experience, angel fish chase another angel to the max length of 4-5 ft beyond that they will give up. My previous tank was a 7x3x2.5. I house 3 queen XL size, and 2 XL French, the chasing ends a 4 ft.

Sorry for giving wrong advice. all this time i thought euxiphipop were very difficult from personal experience. i have kept before holacanthus and euxiphipop tgt, but my euxi keep dying... then i gave up angels. this was 2 years ago when i was in this hobby with my dad.

Chromis? This damselfish is the exception to the rule for damsels. It is peaceful even into adulthood and can be kept together with most any other fish.

Not really .. Had both during my initial startup ... Both fade away about the same time . Only demsels survives really well.

My experience:-

Hate those Damsels ....... Super Hardy BUT Super Hard to Catch.

And they are Super Bully when they grow. They turned super ugly too ...

Took me half a year to catch 7 of them out. Left with a Yellow tail &amp; Azure Damsel.

Rabbit .... Super mild in temper but grew Super Fast. Had to catch him to give back to LFS cos too big for my 4 Footer tank.

Chormis .... hardy but somehow... from 7 pieces down to 1 piece. They seem to 'kill' themselves.

My Yellow Tang is the Champion now since day 1 ... not so troublesome.

Dwarf Angels: I can only share on this cos I felt that 4 Footer Tank cannot fit large Angel.

My longest survivor is Flame Back Angel (from Henry) & Flame Angel (from Aquatechnic)since 2 years ago.

Then over time, I added MultiColour (LCk201), Keyhole (Henry), Coral Beauty (Henry) and the latest (3 months ago) - Rock Beauty Juvenile (SL).

I have experienced a few deaths much earlier with other Dwarf and truely, I agreed that a healthy piece is important for chances of surviving in reef tank.

I kept my tank as FOWLR ... created many Lobangs for them cos initial chase cannot be avoided.

I have heard that maroon clown is agressive but fish like people they have all kinds. I have one that is very big and a big softy, it never bother the others not even other clowns. I guess if space and food is enough that is no fight.

I suppose its your luck that you have a docile maroon clown. Previously I had to give away my small maroon clown in my 4footer because it keeps on attacking other fishes. Very territorial indeed.

Guess damselfish is considerably more forgiving for beginnner mistakes. Yet, on the contrary, I find them not suitable as they tend to be difficult to remove from a reef system. Often terrotorial in nature and hard to mix with other fish also mean it present other set of problems for beginner who most likely tend to add in more fishes into their system in near future.

Not really. It should be problematic if another damsel or clownfish is being added to the system. However some damsel will be more forgiving. Don't let one damsel roam the whole tank for too long as it will take the whole tank as it's terriority. Adding another fish that does not belongs to the damsel or clownfish family should not have any problem at all unless the newcomer go disturb it. I have one very old damsel wuth me for 5 years now, since day 1. To date, i have added 3 clowns, 4 more damsels, purple tang, anthias, shallowtail angel, cardinal fish, all without casualty. Sure once in a while there is bound to be chasing but after one week, they dun bother each other. But blue devil is really too aggressive. Take care if u have this babe.
