Hi,

I'm be getting my new tank soon, dunno whether 3 is better of 4. Can someone tell me the differences in cost ? eg. LR, chiller, light, maintenance etc etc.....

Of course if there is not much difference , i would rather go for a 4footer...

The only difference I would think off is the LR used. Both dimension would required a 2x150MH, a 0.5HP chiller, similar rating Protein skimmer... Go for the 4footer IMO.... you will not regret it... or maybe you will

think its a bigger investment.... i recently changed from 4x1.5x1.5 to 4x2x2 and cost me;

at least 5 bags of sand as compared to 3 bags previously; 3 bags of salt which is double the size; liverocks, more liverocks; stronger pumps and/or more powerheads for better current; and lastly, more water volume and electricity consumption due to more lighting requirements and more pumps/powerheads...

conclusion:

go for the bigger tank; its worth all the expense

....no regrets for me.....

not really that much... maybe just a few hundreds... but when it comes to filling it up w corals/livestocks, definitely yes

... am keeping my 4x2x2 and its hard to fill up coz mine is three sided

in my humble, five cent worth opinion

get the 4 by 2 by 2. you can't go wrong with it. while you're at it, why not get a 4 by 2 by 2.5. then you can have a DSB in the tank without the need of giving up so much height.

understand most forummers , prefer DSB in the sump..... so if it crash , at least the re-work will not be as much as in the main tank.....

I would think the bigger the better but not at the expense of straining your finances.

Afterall, the great thing about this hobby is that you can take it real slow.

You may not be able to fill your tank with stuff in the near future but 1-2 years down the road, I'm sure it would be well stocked with all the stuff you love without a tinge of regret.

yup, three-sided; made it as a partition between my bed and computer workstation....

agree with pornstar, the bigger the better... besides, the bigger the water volume, the more stable and if ls dies in the tank chances of affecting the water quality is minimal....

4x2x2 will definately cost you alot more........

but the advantage of 4x2x2 against 3x2x2......IMO......if somehow u fail to set up a marine tank sucessfully

....u can still use the tank to keep Arowana....

If it is a life long hobby, 1 - 2 years is nothing.
