rainwater as topups

Recommended Posts

Not advisable!

Heard of acid rain?? ;) We don't live high up in the mountains in some clean rural area! :)

Just used processed tap water for your salt mix - cheap and clean. Just remember to use anti-chlorine!

anyone tried this? any side effects?

was thinking since the sea also get topup from rainwater directly or indirectly, maybe its more costsaving and effective in replacing minerals?

I used to do it... for several months before the RO/DI... not negative effects whatsoevre.

They're ok. I much prefer it to tap water due not so much because of chlorine, but metal toxins... copper/metal pipes. Nowadays its chloramine not chlorine anymore.

harvesting them is rather cumbersome... its great when you're home and can wait for the first rains to go then start. Don't collect them from gutter run-offs, but in the open. The water has rather low pH... IHMO, I think its due to its purity and exposure to atmospheric gases particularly CO2. Sadly, I never can collect enough for tank use, before I run out.

Rain water..

Not impossible but also high risk. If our sky has CO2 still not too bad as we only get carbonic aicd which is in ways simliar to our soda drinks... Our dear country has stringent laws for industrial polution.

But our neighbours does not do similar regulation. I know because I was there in their industrial plants. We do get SO3, odour gas into the atmosphere not too far away maybe 300km away or even nearer.

Ever think it is CO2 that deplete our ozone? Think again.
