adding a new canister filter

dear experts, i hv a 2 ft tank running with a hang-on filter with UV, a red sea prizm skimmer. i know this hang-on filter is not sufficient so i want to add a Fluvial 304 filter. Question is can i straight away add this new filter or i hv to set up another tank to cycle this filter?

Help.

actually, im not running on any cannister for the moment. it increases the temperature of the tank. anybody run the tank without cannister or sump successfully?

i just run one skimmer as my sole filtration . no sump , no canister :)

as for bernstein, u can connect the filter straight away to your system :)
