My prizm protein skimmer that is barely one month old suddenly stop working.

Check and found one of the "bracket" on the motor broken and that has caused the impeller to stop.

Anyone knows who is the local agent that can provide the warranty?

Pls help.

It works quite well, giving me the dark green skimmate.

I bought from P*T*A*T like what you mention. Yes they have the parts but I've only used mine for barely one month and the bracket should not be broken so quickly so I want to look for the agent to claim warranty.

If not successful then I LL buy the spare motor. If spare too expensive then buy another skimmer already and blacklist the brand :P

This is really "good" and "wonderful" news.

First time I heard that no warranty + no spares avaliable (at least for this moment). Seems like I am not the only person that is facing this problem.

When I assemble the motor I did not force it in. I followed the instruction very carefully and everything is working great until last night when no more water coming out from the skimmer.

Now it is running again but no more foam. I guess the motor is not producing enuff bubbles.

Now I am dead already right cos they don't sell the motor anymore. Perhaps should write to case and complain. How can they provide these type of aftersales service.

I bought this because it is very compact and saves a lot of space. Looks like I am stuck now.

Are you able to take a photo of the fault area? Faulty motor should be covered under the 12-month manufacturer warranty (but I think it depends on where the fault lies). Why don't you visit Red Sea Fish web site at http://www.redseafish.com and post your problem under their Contact Us page? If you are able to furnish me with a photo of the fault area, I can help you to e-mail to the right person in Red Sea Fish (and no, I don't work for Red Sea Fish nor Qian Hu / Yi Hu - it just that I have corresponded with Red Sea Fish as a end-user and I do have the e-mail address of the person in charge of these matters). However, I will only do this if you have exhausted your avenues with your LFS or Qian Hu / Yi Hu (speak to a Peter under Yi Hu Retail).

By the way, the O-rings are considered replacement parts so they are not under warranty.

hi,

I went to the LFS concern today and they called Yi Hu and was told no spare avaliable.

The problem as you can see from the picture is not the O-Ring, if O-ring no issue as they are easily avaliable. You can see the broken bracket, just broke off like that and it blocked the impeller and the skimmer cannot work already.

I have been using my Prism for alomost 2 yrs and so far encounter no problem. In fact i rate the performance as one of the better skimmer on budget.

As for waiting for Yi hu to bring in the parts, you can wait till the cows come home and they still would not have got it done. In fact, i had to pester them since year 2000 January till about half a yr ago before they got the surface skimmer attachment brought in. :(

Nevetheless, pirsm is still cool.

I wrote to redsea regarding my problem and finally got a reply.

They also keen to support this group.

------------------

Dear Wei,

I am sorry for the lack of communication. I am in Guangzhou China at

the moment at a very interesting Hobby Aquarium Show and was unable to

check my email for a few days.

Regards the Prizm, this is the first time we have seen this problem.

Thank you very much for bringing it to our attention and supplying the

photo. We will certainly replace the Prizm Motor free of charge.

I have asked our Agent Yi Hu in Singapore to contact you and organise to

supply you with a new motor ASAP.

I am interested in the Singapore Aquarium Club you belong to. Is there

any way that Red Sea can support you group? We are certainly keen to

support Marine Hobby Clubs!

Dear Sir,

A good day to you.

I've received no reply or comment regarding my problem. Does this meant

that you accept the way things are going for the prizim in Singapore? In

this case I will have to state my experience when I "review" the prizm.

Best Regards

Wei Leong

Subject: redsea prizm protein skimmer

Dear Sir,

In early Oct I bought a prizm from one of the LFS in Singapore. I choose

the prizm because of the compact size and good review it has.

Late this week my prizm protein skimmer that is barely one month old

suddenly stop working. I checked and found one of the "bracket" on the

motor broken and that has caused the impeller to stop running pls look

at the attached photo for details. I went back to the LFS where I bought

the prizm and the LFS boss checked with the distributor. I was told that

they do not even sell this motor.

This is the first time I heard that no warranty + no spares avaliable

(at least for this moment). Seems like I am not the only person that is

facing this problem as I've checked with a few local hobbist and they

too had this problem.

When I assemble the motor I did not force it in. I followed the

instruction very carefully and everything is working great until last

night when no more water coming out from the skimmer.

I've managed to put the motor back and it is held in place by the

o-ring, however it will drop out in due time.

Now it is running again but no more foam for the past 3 days. I guess

the motor is not producing enough bubbles.

Now I am dead already because no motor is avaliable and currently no

foam is produced. I am forced to buy a new skimmer but definately I have

to go for some other brands because of the aftersales support and spares

avaliable. My money has just gone into the drain. I would have never buy

this skimmer if I know of this problem beforehand.

Regards.

Wei Leong

FYI, Paul was actually in Singapore during the Aquarama 2003 exhibition but under Dupla brand (I think a subsidary of Red Sea Fish) distributed locally by AquaTechnique.

Red Sea has only recently Takeover Dupla....

Hope they can give Dupla more explosure in S'pore and bring down the price too!
