Cleaner/banded Shrimp

Can I know how u guys acclimatize the cleaner/banded shrimp? I have tried 2 times (from different LFS) put in the shrimps and 2 times they are dead within minutes.

Steps that I have carried out:

1. Float the bag for half an hour

2. Slowly add water from my tank into the bag.

3. Net the shrimp out from the bag and put it in my tank.

What went wrong? Is it my water? My clown and butterfly fish are surviving leh.

Also, any idea where to get banded shrimp at a lower prices? I got it both times for $8. Wat size should I get?

I had mine in the tank for 1/2 hr then add ard 1/6 of water in the bag from my tank until the bag has at least 3x the original amount. Heard that shrimp are sensitive to copper. Any chance that u have copper trace in your tank?

its pretty hardy comparatively...

the price is abt $3-5 depending on size and shipment and LFS.

if its the skunk cleaner...

its abt $7-15

No chances of copper since I have just setup my tank for 2.5 months and never use copper medication before. (Don't know how to use too )

BUt my nitrate level is at around 40ppm.

Huh? Coral banded died? They r tough buggers. They nev die.

U r overpaying for the coral banded, Re**rn is selling for lower price. My fren jas_soh is sellig hers. Go to the pasar malam thread.

My advice, dun take them out of the water. Very stressful. Add water frm ur tank in the bag, after a while, pour 50% awy, then repeat above and repeat again. Finally pour everything + water in ur tank. Tis is how I do it. So far, safe as LFS water already diluted by the water frm my tank.

I means the one with red and white strips.

Just you might have to try lower the nitrate to below 20ppm although I doubt that's the reason. Any expert can confirm?

Btw, are the two shrimp you get the small one? Maybe because of that need better control acclimitization.

your n03 is too high for shrimp.......

should be less than 20ppm in no3 ......

maybe be a sudden shock of no3 too high in your tank ....try reduce n03 to 20ppm and below is also quite stressful to the fishes in the long run .......

Check out in the internet and got the name of the shrimp. It is a Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp.

My tank parameter are:

Nitrite 0ppm

Nitrate 40ppm or slightly more (about to change water)

pH 8.4

Temperature 28.2 - 28.8

Salinity 1.025

Where to get the cheapest and healthly too.

Wasted $24 on 3 of these shrimps already.

I think u should reduce the nitrate and the salinity too. SKUNK shrimp are normally more expensive than coral banded shrimp aka boxing shrimp.
