SRC Member yazid Posted November 5, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 5, 2003 HDB is doing electrical maintenance work and will be shutting down the power supply for 2 hours. Need ideas to ensure tank survive the ordeal Here is what I think I should do: a. Get 2 battery operated air pump b. Pray that everything survive after 2 hours. c. Pray that the power shutdown is not extended to longer hours. Anybody anymore idea? I don't think I'm gonna invest in a UPS. Anybody want to loan me one? Is there such thing as battery operated powerhead? Or am I unduly worried... it is only 2 hours shutdown.
SRC Member reefer guy Posted November 5, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 5, 2003 hey dude, i accidentally had the same experience... there was 1 night that i manually switched of one power point thinking that its my handphone charger, unaware that it's the main power supply for my filtration and powerheads!!! just realized it the next morning when i saw no movement in my tank... really stupid of me i admit, thank god no casualty at all..... well, not saying its advisable not to do anything, nor it would be the same situation as mine... but take precautions.. at least water movement if not filtration will help... car batteries, u reckon? SRC Member nutx Posted November 5, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 5, 2003 Schedule a water change during that 2hr period may helps.

Achilles Tang
Yazid, remember we discussed about a UPS to run a circulation pump in SRC before.... why don't you revive that thread?
Morgan
Yazid After viewing your tank last nite.....I don't think 2 hours without power will cause much harm. Battery operated air pumps will solve the problem
IanJ
HDB recently shut off the power for 4 hours. It was not a problem for this length of time. You can always create some water movement by hand every hour or so if you want.
SRC Member yazid Posted November 5, 2003 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 5, 2003 Looks like not much choice... Been to Pet*** and saw oxygen tablet. Probably use this together with battery operated air pump. You can always create some water movement by hand every hour or so if you want. I won't be around to do that. Unless my wife is willing to do that for me. But I doubt so. Yazid, remember we discussed about a UPS to run a circulation pump in SRC before.... why don't you revive that thread? UPS, it will definitely work to run a powerhead... but I don't want to spend anymore hardware.... no space. I wanna go diving.
