I have a 2x1x1.8 ft fowlr tank. As I tends to overfeed my fishes and have used tap water to mixed my sw, I have cyano and unwanted algae in my tank. Recently I have add a FR to my canister and a nanostream to increase circulation, the condition of cyano and unwanted algae have improved slightly. Manage to see some coralline growth after dosing with Jireh's additive A to E. Was thinking of upgrading my skimmer next. Btw I am using Weipro 2011 driven by a 1300l/h pump now.

Bros pls recommend me a skimmer(prefer a hangon type cos I have no sump), so I can put in consideration for my next upgrade. (Got to save for it :P )

:thanks:

you really cannot compare a deltec and prizm. they're 2 different leagues altogether. alternatively can try the aquamedic turbo flotor biostar.

tunze comline DOC skimmer looks good too.

if money not an issue, get a better one. it will serve u well in the long run.

if ur tank is less than 300l , go for MCE 300 , if not a MCE 600 will be great.

biostar flotor is a quiet and efficient skimmer.

the nano reefpack will be one great option for nano reefer =)

My suggestions:

1) Since you have to SAVE for it, I will suggest you proceed with care. Since you water volume is quite low, any of the above mentioned protein skimmer will serve you well (yupe that includes the Prizm). If you earn $200 a day, then go for the most expensive skimmer you can find since money is of no concern

2) It really depends on your tank bioload also (what kinda fishes, quantity, size and feeding habit). I will suggest for your tank size, try not to overstock regardless of what super skimmer you will eventually get.

3) Go for the largest hang-on skimmer you can afford right now. Coz you might upgrade to a 2 x 2 x 2 in the near future and the best is not having to upgrade your skimmer again. In this case, I will go for an affordable high capacity model instead of an expensive small capacity model (that is if you only have X amount of cash to play with).

4) Since your current tank is quite small, I will suggest get a skimmer that is completely off tank (outside tank)... the Aquamedic skimmer requires you to place a rather large pump inside your tank... taking up precious real estate.

I'm sure there are more... I shall let other reefers contribute further

All the best bro :)

hi there bro shiok,

i would recommend the schuran 100, the bubblemaster 160 (when they come out) or the H&S F2001-110 for your system. i find hang on skimmers less effective than in-sump or external skimmers as their cascading water outflow causes splashes and salt creep, plus they generally have very low throughputs.

the above skimmers should all be available for below $500, with a capacity for tanks between say 200-400L. they are the smallest in their respective ranges, and would be good should you decide to upgrade in the future.

cheers,

ian
