Rare lionfish (IMHO)

Recommended Posts

Saw this lionfish only twice in my nearly 8 years of hunting for oddballs. It is a really sensitive fellow, dashing around at the slightest disturbance.

Unfortunately not eating yet, though tempted with live small marine fish. Hope it survives. The first specimen I kept was back in 2002, without success.

I remember a fellow enthusiast from Thailand (a SRC member) have a specimen in his/her collection too.

Think you are right, Terryz. Coincidentally, I am keeping it in the same tank as my small colony of flying gurnards and an oriental gurnard.

Cool, how big a tank are you keeping them in... This is a second time i have seen this Lionfish..

Yes, I'm from Thailand and once kept this lion.

That is Parapterios heterura

It's a kind of the coolwater fishes that do best kept in the temperature below 28 c.

Prone to skin infection and sensitive to low water quality and oxygen level.

When first acquired, it need some live food to started them feeding like some ghost shrimps, brine shrimps (in case the fish is not too big yet).

Some of my fish collection including this lionfish, Pterois miles.

Hi Bro Fuel,

Care to post a pic of your Parapterois for all to share?

Thanks.

Here it is in it's own quarantine tank at the moment. The pectoral fins were quite torn but it is very alert overall.

This has got to be my favourite lionfish of all time. :)

It did not eat the bite sized percula clown I gave it. Instead it seemed to go crazy over live enriched adult brine shrimp. :)

woa bro nice lion

haha its worth it

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

very nice lion!

the fins are awesome.

What size tank are u intending to house it in... i assume its in QT now?

There will be no more "Finding Nemo 2" :<

Brown SPS > Kinder Surprise

White SPS = Kinder Surprise after expiry date

Assumption killed the dinosaurs, they didnt have test kits.

It's in my frag tank due to temperature concerns. Read that it needed temperatures below 28 degrees celcius. It already started eating in the QT so I just released it into the frag tank. It's still eating in there so I hope the cooler temperatures will help it. I am keeping temperature at 27 degrees celcius for it.

Always something more important than fish.
