What skimmer should i use?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys...

i have a tank running for about 4 mths now... no problems so far...

however i would like to change my skimmer to a more powerful one...

Right now i am using a small ORC* skimmer that is air driven....

I was thinking of changing to a weipr* or another pump driven one.....

But was worried about whether there it will be too powerful?? is there such thing as too much skimming?? i asked a shop assistant and he told me buying the big one for my tank is an overkill.......

ANyway i have a 2ft tank , no sump , and i using a 2213 canister , orc* air driven skimmer...

What u guys think??

what brand and model should i invest in??

:erm:

There is no one sure way whether you need skimmer, you need to over skim or you can not under skim. Different people have different opinion. Some say go for the highest you can afford. Some expert tank are run successfully without skimmer. In term of price, your next up choice is Weipro, then it is AquaC hangon type.

IMo weipro is a very good choice for you if you are on budget and also looking for an efficient skimmer....... Going overskimming is good and so i recommend you to get weipro model 2012 or 2013

thanks guys.....been a real help............ :lol::lol:

Was thinking between the 2011 or the 2012...hmm.....gotta do some shopping......

Anyway.......just a stupid thought......

i mean.....hang on skimmers are pretty heavy right....can the aquarium wall take the weight??

i mean.....with the water pressure in the tank and all......wonder why it can take so much weight.............:huh:

Thanks a million.......

for the budget conscious, get a Weipro 2011. its more than enough for a normal 2ft tank.

for those with cash to burn...get a Prism or get a Remore hang on by AquaC. (=

If you have the choice between the 2, skip the Prism, spend the extra money for a Remora by AquaC.

prizm is rather over-rated IMO.. maybe it's good for a 1 or 2 feet tank but still weipro can outclass and outperform it anyway with a good pump ;) prizm looks good though but u can NEVER get the same kind of skimmate that u get with a weipro or the aquaC

Well, I beg to differ on the Prizm series - I am quite happy with my Prizm on my 2ft tank and my Prizm Pro on my 3ft tank with 3ft sump. It's a all-in-one unit without worrying if your pump is under- or over-rated. Tuning your protein skimmer, IMO, is quite important if you want to get good skimmate.

Weipro protein skimmers look good, and I have seen and heard a lot of success stories using them. However, there seem to be cracks developing on the unit by a few users.
