SPS under shadow

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a SPS coral which is under 10 x T5 lights... while the part of the SPS under the light has all its polyps coming out... the part that is under its own shadow has changed colour and polyps not open at all....In other orders , i have a sps with 50% polyps open and 50% not open.

what has gone wrong? :( any advise would be appreciated.

Can you move the coral to a different location in your reef exposed to more light? If the shadow is preventing all light to a portion of your coral, then unless moved to higher light or fragged, that portion w/out polyp extension will die off over time.

Good luck.

Thanks aquavista99, i am quite skeptical about this as there will still be some portion not under light unless the light can penetrate the polyp or getting a light to shine beneath the SPS :(

nevertheless, i will put it higher to catch more light. :thanks:

Yeah that's a real challenge in keeping SPS especially for those thick branches :pinch: All the best to you bro :)

Hi everyone, I also facing tis pro, which sometimes certain part of the sps had dead due to lack of light i believe, if place them out which totally expose to light, is it possible for them to recover? most of the time the diein parts is from the bottom. :(

For best results, make sure your entire SPS colony is exposed to intense light and random flow. It parts of your coral are bleaching, something is wrong. Usually the bottom/base of healthy corals get less light, but should otherwise be healthy with extended polyps, etc.
