does 4x54W T5 = 150W MH?

Recommended Posts

oh shit. I didn't know. about the being discussed thing. hmm.

I know the advantage of a MH light...as in its a concentrated beam of light as compared to the spread radius of a T5. just wanted to know if multiplied by wattage, is it a same sort of comparisson to a MH.

thanks anyway. yeah coz I'm intending to get the Dimfix retrofit first. then when urh...the tank is more mature and when I'm richer...I'll get a set of MH lights. maybe like those by Weipro. or something. or if I'm rich enough, Giesseman. hurhur! :P

4 x 54w = 216w

against

1 x 150w = 150w

...guess u know which would be more economical.... i think ur use of type of light will fully depend on what types of corals u intend to keep.... maybe you could indicate ur livestocks

cheers!

thats the problem. I don't know what I'll be keeping as yet. in fact, I haven't even gotten the tank yet, let alone the lights. only got the chiller, the return pump and the impending arrival of the EC 180. :P

I was just thinking long term, when I dare venture into corals....so yeah. was wondering if it'd be more cost effective to get a 2x54W ATI first now and get another 2x54W ATI later...or just jump straight into a MH. (=

ive seen a weipro from a fellow reefer, lighting up his 4ft tank..... things i've observed, first is i can really feel the heat oozing out and secondly, the ballast was

quite noisy... correct me if i'm wrong about my feedback about the weipro but those were things i have observed....

a piece of advice:

y dont u just diy ur mh lighting? i think a well planned set up is better than saying, "i'd use this now and if i can afford i'd buy that next time.." coz in the long run u'd be spending more than necessary.. don t get offended, just my point of view bro.... not intending to ridicule ur idea.. anyway, i think there r a few fellow reefers who would be willing to help u diy ur lighting, some maybe even be selling parts cheaper.....

also, i think u would need at least 2 x 150 mh for a 4ft tank.... i am using the same setup

no offence taken. constructive criticism. a very essential part in improving oneself. (=

yeah I've taken into account the DIY and upgrading possibilities next time. however, financial allowances would not allow for that. then again, I'll be contradicting myself by saying that I like the novelty of the dimmable light by ATI. :P

unless you know of someone who can DIY 2 x 150W MH plus maybe....two tubes of T5 for aesthetic purposes....with dimmable ballast. do you? (=

anyways thanks for the feedback! (=

Watt for watt, T5 will be brighter than MH because it's a more efficient form of lighting but it's diffused light as opposed to a point source.
