SRC Member STORM TROPPER Posted February 4, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted February 4, 2007 hello there, if u can try to catch it n place it in the quarantine box n slowly feed it,so tt u r not flooding the tank with food. a very good skimmer will be able to remove it. i could be wrong maybe it still adjusting itself to the new environment even though u bought it 6 weeks ago. SRC Member big_ben102000 Posted February 5, 2007 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 5, 2007 ya i flood my tank with food, it didnt really accept food for nearly 2 weeks, then it started eating, i have no doubt that it will regain the weight lost, however thats not the case. i am not really into the quarantine method, i think it will stress the fish even more than it already is making things worst. i think i will just continue flooding my tank with food. btw bro ambystoma82, that goby hasnt taken pellets yet, it will juz swallow it and it comes out from it gills ... SRC Member jacobus Posted February 5, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted February 5, 2007 maybe you can try grinding the pellets into powder ... and use a syringe connected to a long tube... then inject it onto the sand? just a idea .. not sure if it will work ... anyways... signals are quite difficult ... u mentioned signal goby right ? as in single ? heard that they have better success of survival as pairs .. maybe u can also try chopping up some seafood and placing it on the sand .. hope this helps! SRC Member Reefaholic Posted February 5, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted February 5, 2007 IMO, signal goby is a very difficult fish to keep. I once had a signal that survive for 6months without eating anything except the munching on the sand bed. What ever pellet went through its grill. So no point. In the end it disappeared. SRC Member big_ben102000 Posted February 5, 2007 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 5, 2007 yea bro jacobus, the one with 2 black dots on its fins. i only got one haha i read in one of the threads that they will become hostile if the two doesnt ge talong well... will try placing some food in the sand bed, no point placing them on the sand bed, i got another 2 gobies that will eat the food. the current in my tank is pretty strong as well =) bro Reefaholic wa six months ??!~ thats a very long time for just surviving by munching on sand. mine used to do that very often all round the tank infact. now it just stay at one area where the current will bring food down to the lower part of the tank. the sand on the other side of the tank is untouched ... it doesnt hide in its barrow anymore as well, it will just lay on the sand bed when the lights are out. i am using grade 0 sand btw. SRC Member jacobus Posted February 5, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted February 5, 2007 check if there is any agression amongst the gobies ... that might be stressing it out that its not eating ? i had a rainford goby that i thought was doing well untill i noticed my white goby was chasing it .. so the rainford ended up in my sump so that it can live.. .. btw ur tank what size ? able to support 3 sand shifters ? SRC Member Reefaholic Posted February 6, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted February 6, 2007 If you add 2 at the same time, it should not have any problem. But if u add one later, then the 1st one will be aggressive. Yes 6mths without eating and just munching sand, perhaps my sand has lots of other stuff. It quite active too, hopping in the open sand bed and only hide to sleep during the nite. Its a very tuff fish to keep. Unless u have lots of stuff in the sand. SRC Member big_ben102000 Posted February 6, 2007 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 6, 2007 bro jacobus, i only got one sand shifter, which is the signal goby, the other 4 are rainford, high fin goby and a goby with orange dots (dont know the name). my high fin i got it 4 days ago and feeding well but MIA liao.. didnt see it for 2 days might be hiding somewhere. the only agressive in my tank is a bicolour gamma which doesnt really disturn that signal goby ... my tank size is 3 by 1.5 by 1.5. sump tank is the same dimension. my main tank has around 1.5 inches of grade zero sand. bro Reefaholic, mine come out to the open to feed munch on sand, hides near a rock at night, my tank is pretty small so i dont think it has alot to munch on will keep flooding my tank with food until it fattens up
