Help with my 90G Cube Future SPS Tank

Recommended Posts

Hello Reefers, :)

I got a new tank setup 3 weeks ago. Its a 90G cube with 45G sump/fuge. It just has a copperband, algae blenny, 2 cleaner shrimp and 8 turbo snails. No corals yet. It has about 60kgs of LR with a 1" SSB in the main tank.

The cube is 30Lx24Wx30H and the sump is 30Lx20Wx18H.

Skimmer:

Deltec AP600

Lights:

For Cube:

SolarMax MH Fixture, 400W 14k, with 2x24W T5 and built in fan.

For Fuge:

2x24W Aquaz T5 Sunpros 10ks

Return Pump:

Rio Hyperflow 14HF

Circulation:

2x Seio M820s

Chiller:

Teco TR15

Questions:

1) Is my equipment enough to keep an SPS/clam setup?

2) I have an 8 inch dsb in my sump's middle chamber, please see pic below. Should I just replace it with chaeto, as my gut feeling is that the DSB looks pretty ineffective.

3) I have 1" SSB in my main tank, am I better to just remove it and go BBT?

4) When can I introduce my first SPS?

5) How many fish would be ideal in this setup, and what kinds?

6) Can I dose CA and Alk first before I try a kalk or CA reactor?

OK, thanks in advance!

As long as your calcium, KH and Mag is at its optimum values,

phosphate and nitrate is zero, you are good to go.

Thanks,

Water Paremeters are:

SG 1.025

KH 10

PH 8.2 lights out, 8.4 lights on

Calcium 500

Magnesium 1340

Temp 27

Trates 0

Phates 0

Trites 0

Amm 0

Guess, I'm good to go :D

Cheers

you might need to increase the flow with controllable tunze.....SPS love high flow....the plusing action of the controllable tunze would ensure that the SPS has some 'breathing' time from all those high flow.....;)

I agree Tineng. I definitely need more flow. A tunze seems like a much better option than buying lots of seios.

  • 3 weeks later...

I think you guys are asking pics of Jon's new tank. If you're asking pics of my tank. Nothing to post really. Boring BBT with some LRs, powerheads, empty sump, and few fish and snails and other boring equipment. In a few months when I get some SPS and more fish then maybe I'll post some pics.

Cheers
