After some thought, decided to use this tank as a sump. Will add some dividers for the various compartments sometime during the week to be ready for setup next weekend.

The rack for the tanks will be coming on Wednesday.

Got hold of another tank with internal overflow, so that I don't have to have overflow pipes. Probably will have less piping problems. Tank coming on Saturday.

At the moment, hubby is adding some aluminium strips of the edge of the tank for added protection against bumps & cracks. Will go home to take pics, at work now.

Something like yours will be my goal.:bow:

Only problem is that I don't like sand.

Planning to go bb for the main tank too. Is it advisable to put eggcrate at the bottom of the tank than put the LR on top? Or maybe a piece of acryllic? In case of toppling LR cracking the tank.

Btw, may I know where u get the valves? Need to get some piping stuff bulkheads, etc... during the week to setup tank during the weekend.

Err.. wat is starboard? Where to get?

 Think it will work if I put a thin layer of sand, put a piece of acryllic, then sillicon the sides?

Thot using acyllic b'cos got quite a few pieces lying around the house. Only trouble is cutting it. Using the scratching knife & achieving a clean, straight break will be a challenge.

If u want to go for BB I think berlin method is what u should look up for.

Inorder to limit the amount of organic material in the tank go for a super powerful skimmer & lots of live rocks

strong & good circulation within the tank with help to suspend the debris and bring it down to the sump

plus you can siphon them out when u spot them  (at dead spot if any)

Starboard is a brand name for marine stabilized plastic board, just like those kitchen cutting board

It provide a nice white look and to protect the base glass from the live rock.

I personally do not like BB.. I will go for SSB for my main tank :P for nature look

I suppose acryllic is okay. Can save some $$ since I already have at home.

Should I put a thin layer of sand underneath??

 I thought u don't like sand and want to go for BB??

if u want to elevate the rocks can use sections of pvc

I mean under the acryllic. To give it a more natural look??

Got some leftover sand from previous setup. Thot can "fei wu li yong"

I think I should have enough LR to play lego. It's just trying to stack them as nice as you guys would be tough.

??? chey... u neber mention u going to seal it... but dun think u can seal for long, will leak......

yalor.. so mafan.....keke... go BB la

Now settle tank. In the process of consulting "piping guru" bro yvoneysl.

Decide how the pipe goes. Then start to add dividers to the sump for the various compartments.

Very impress by you guys who can do planning on paper then carry out the plans.

I usually have to have the things in front of me physically than can see what to do, test out the things, do corrections, etc...

End of the day, final product have so many alterations, & butt ugly!

:cry2:

Hehe, anyway prefer diy-ing than cooking. Weird girl!

For me I like both DIY and cooking  weird man

For return pump piping, try to go as short as possible.

try not to use 90 degree elbow, go for 45 instead.

Use value with union for quick removal of pump during mantainance

if u want can T-off to FR or chiller

forgot about check value I think yr 4ft sump can handle the dack flow

for overflow pipe the bigger the better...40mm best but depend on your existing drilled holes size on the tank.

must use durso to reduce noise

try to have some gradent, some ppl like to t-off to skimmer (depend on the type of skimmer u using)

attach dwg incase u do'nt understand my english...

so I demand 5 x chicken wings + 5 otahs during yr reef tank open house

This works great for me but u might want to ask around for more opinion
