My male Watanabe changed ###### in my FOWLR tank.

I am speculating that it changed to a female to get bullied less.

Below is a pic of the Watanabe in my quarantine tank with full male colouration and markings.

In the next pic u can see that the stripes starting to disappear and the blue crown markings are appearing.

The watanabe is now completely morph to a female but i have not taken a pic yet to share.

Will do so later to show the full female markings.

I thought fishes normally morph into males only. Are there other Watanabe in the tank?

I have just 1 Watanabe in the tank but i do have 20 other large single species angels in the tank too.

My theory is that the Watanabe morph to avoid aggrression in the tank.

Well that throws my aggression theory out the window.

Do u think its chemically induced?

Hi bros,

From my limited knowledge, I believe they also need females to maintain male coloration.

The same goes for some fairy wrasses.

This sounds logical.

I wonder if i put another female watanabe in the tank, one of them will morph into a male?

I prefer the male colouration.

From what i understand, they need female to maintain their male coloration, when a male is alone, there is a high tendencey that they will change back to female as they dun have a need to remain male...

I think this is in-built in angels... I think got something to do with hierachy thingy...

There is a high possibility, but it is not always 100%...

There are some reported cases that 2 female are able to form a pair with one changing to female especially in the Genicanthus Angels...
