arg's ABSOLUTELY LAST tank

Its been a month now since the last resident of my FOWLR tank went to heaven. I am going to let the tank go fallow for another 2 to 4 weeks before letting new tenants reside in the main tank.

My 3 quarantine tanks are full. Isn't it always the case that when u dont have space, all the nice fishes are available...

I got this angel a couple of weeks ago and I have not been sure of its identity.

It looks like a Pale-head Velvet or Vanderloos' Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus vanderloosi) but it does not have a black tail with a yellow margin. It looks a lot like the Queensland Yellowtail angelfish (Chaetodontoplus meredithi) from australia but it does not have a blue spotted face.

I will just call it a Pale-head Angelfish.

Hi Arg,

I have read with keen interest in yor choice of nature's corals as part of the decor for your Fowler. Do they accumulate detris and algae after a while? Is it difficult to maintain the clean and vibrant colors as when it was new without too much scrubbing and maintenance?

Any advice you can give?

Hi cKevin,

The Natures Image corals do get algae growing on them. However, I have not had to take them out to clean yet because I introduced a very hard working algae blenny in the tank.

The colours do fade a bit after awhile and I believe the corals look more realistic when the colours are not so intense.

The one main problem I have with the artificial corals is that the fishes keep knocking them down.

Overall I am very happy with the artificial corals and it does add another dimension to a FOWLR tank.

I dont have 1 big quarantine tank. I have 3 quarantine tanks.

I put 4 or 5 angels in a tank to get them use to being in a community tank and to learn to compete for space and food.

Got a new DI unit to augment my RO water filter.

Its a Crystal Pro 3 stage water filter with a carbon filter and two DI mixed bed resin. By itself its supposed to remove 99.9% of contaminants including heavy metals, phosphates, silicates and nitrates.

I am connecting the DI filter to the output of my RO unit to further clean my freshwater reservoir for my salt mix.

The water output from the RO and DI filters will be cleaner than my household drinking water..hehe

Very long time since I last posted an update.

After almost 9 weeks of letting the main tank go fallow, I have put a Rusty angel, a Mandarin Dragonet into the acclimatisation chamber in the refugium of my FOWLR tank for a couple of weeks now.

I have also put a Algae Blennie in the maintank to help clean up the tank. The poor fellow gets chased everywhere by the 4 huge cleaner shrimp in the tank.

Below is pic of the Crystal pro 3 stage DI filter. The left most canister is the Carbon Block. The Middle and right most canister contains the DI mixed base resin.

The quality of the water supplied to homes in Malaysia is so bad, that most homes have a filter at the mains before it gets into our taps or storage tanks.

I am sure if I did not have a mains filter the reading will be well over 80ppm.

Actually I am quite familiar with the water over your side... grew up in Jalan Imbi, Cheras and Petaling Jaya

The tank design, install, plumbing and electrical work are all in Malaysia. The equipment is from Malaysia, Singapore and the US.

I guess monthly expenses for electricity and additives must be very high. but keep up the good work and remember to update regularly..... the work done... priceless.
