I have separate Distribution Board for my aquariums power supply. It has 3 individual Earth Leak Circuit breaker (ELCB) for each of the 3 phase supply.

The Neptune Systems AquaController 3 uses the Direct Conect 8 (DC8) power module as a relay power supply to intelligently control devices such as chillers, pumps, lighting, ozonizers, CO2 injection etc.

The only problem right now is that it only works as a electrical relay for US 110v AC supply. Neptune Systems is working on a International version for 220v-240v AC. I am on their wait list when it is available.

I supply 110v power to the DC8 via a stepdown transformer. I have the Wave2K wave generator directly connected and controlled by the DC8 as it uses 110v.

I have a bunch of LED lights to simulate moonlight and some red LED lights to watch the night critters in my tanks. The LEDs were purchased from the US and they run on 110v. I plan to have them controlled by the DC8 for my two old tanks.

So how does the AquaController3 with the DC8 control UK 240v AC devices for me? Right now I have to use 110v AC input, 240v AC output contactors.

The AC3 signals the DC8 to supply or cut power. This 110v AC power from the DC8 supplies 110v AC input for the contactors that control 240v supply for specific outlets for my chiller, ozonizer, T5 lights, etc.

It is a lot more complicated than other European Aquarium Controllers power modules but it works for me until the 220v-240v version of the DC8 becomes available.

I have not moved all of my fish to the new tank yet. So far i have only moved an Earspot angel. a Potteri angel, an African flameback angel, a Singapore angel. a Pacific Sailfin tang, a Yellow tang, a Big nose Naso into the new tank.

I have another 50+ fish to move. Will share a pic once the fishes are moved.

Continuing the Journey....

Power failure poses the most risk to aquarists particularly in Malaysia. To mitigate this risk I have a couple of things put in place.

To do something about a power failure u must first know that there is a power failure.

My home is a smart home and it has a module that has a text to voice feature that allow u to be alerted when certain things happen. The house is programmed to call me on my cellphone and inform me when there is a power failure.

Currently my home only tells me when power is off for the whole house but I am in the process of changing it to tell me when one of the 3 phase supply to my aquarium DB is down.

The Neptune AC3 has an ability to send email alerts when certain parameters are breached. I have not yet explored integrating this to my home automation systems. Something that is still on my very long to do list.

The next thing is to ensure power backup for key life support devices. I have a UPS that provides battery backup for my home automation systems, the return pumps of my koi pond, my aquariums air blower and aquarium return pumps, the AC3, and some fans and lighting for our living spaces in our home.

We are still trying to work out how much battery capacity is required to ensure that there is enough capacity for 4 to 5 hours power disruption. This should mitigate the risk of most power utilities failure in Malaysia.

The third phase is to have a backup generator that automatically fails over during a power disruption. I will not be doing this anytime soon.

I'm exploring it but have to work thru the issues and the need for it. There are pros and cons and of course the cost.

Pros : Whole house can have independent power supply

Cons : Noisy generators, rewiring DB, finding space outdoors, getting permits, dealing with neighbours complaints/permission, safe storage of diesel in residence area, refueling, maintenance and periodic testing and of course the COST.

For now, the UPS takes care of my current needs.

ya, they might be noisy but then again, how many time will you use it a year? and how long each time? i mean your neighbour might be reasonable as its not as if you on it very frequently

Continuing the Journey....

Had a algae bloom in the tank despite having two Phosban reactors with 300mg Phosban and a Skimz reactor with 200mg Sorb4. Tested 1ppm PO4 with salifert PO4 kit.

Suspect PO4 leaching from the live rocks and or from the cheap RM17 carbon in the sump as bioload is very light.

Removed the cheap carbon. Got a couple of additional Skimz reactors which come with 200mg of Sorb4 each.

Used one reactor with 400mg Sorb4 and used the other Skimz reactor with 1ltr of Zeovit carbon.

Connected the two new Skimz reactors with the existing Skimz reactor in series with a Eheim power compact 1000.

Added a Algae Blennie in the main tank and the little fella went to town with the algae on my "SPS" , sand and rocks.
