thx.. but is it ok if i dont wash the sand at all?

yes u should not wash ur sand if u are talking about live sand like those aragonite sand with live bacteria, package with seawater.

if u are talking about those coral chip at grade 0 for substrate , i would advice u to wash ur sand as clean as possible using tap water. they are dead anyway.

if u had set up ur tank already , normally we dun wash our substrate when we are changing water , too much of a hassle.

No, do not wash your sand as they contain beneficial bacteria. Live sand and live rock is the same thing, something live is living on them and not the sand is alive. Even if you are using dead sand, they will become alive once established. Sand is a very good place for BB to live in. If you wanted to wash your sand because they are dirty, don't do it. Get cleaning crews to help you, black sea cucumber, shrimps, conches, all these are great cleaners.

Yes, new sand should be washed. Do a search on #1 sand, there's an old post with pix showing the shocking stuff that can be found during a wash! ;)

Sand from an established tank should never be washed in tap water.
