do i need to wash it b4 puttin into the tank??

i did not wash it and put it into the tank....the water seems to turn black...how??

and the small fine fine black power pieces form the carbon seems to be everywhere ...on my sandbed..etc...

here from Shopkeeper said that activated carbon will remove the colour of the corals.

any way, i don't buy his idea. what abt u all?

Emm... he must has his own theory to claim such a bold statement... but I will not run a reef tank witthout activated carbon :)

yea... dun buy that theory too.... when we have mild food poisoning... we consume some charcoal tablet... carbon is something like the charcoal tablet... well we dun loose colour, do we :) cheers.....

dun forget to replace your activated carbon after a couple of months.. carbon act as filters.. as it is very porous.. but once the cavities are all filled.. it can leak back toxins back to the tank...

Instead of carbon, I use this thingy called Chemi-pure.. slightly more expensive... but I find that its more effective and last longer than the conventional activated carbon.. my 2 cents worth... HTH... :)

used to use active carbon when i first started, but now i dont use it i didnt feel much difference with or without it, it does clear the brown colour of your water a bit. i only use bio balls, kent nitrate sponge and seachem phosguard nowdays.
