Cauliflower........how to remove?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

As I am new here I would like to seek advise on how to remove cauliflower from an infected fish.(That's what I was told by a reefer) It's the white stuff on the tail of my butterfly. Just a bit but I want to tackle it before it gets worse. Please help. I have no idea at all. Thanks a lot.

Cauliflower? Which reefer told you that?

From the sounds of it, it is more likely a fungus infection...

You will need to treat it in a seperate tank using Anti-fungi medication... Most of these medication are non-reef safe so it will kill corals and inverts....

It is a viral disease that cannot be treated with most commercially available medications. Some people attempt to cut it off. You can try to feed the fish with garlic-enriched food and hope that it fights off the infection by itself and the growth reduces in size or disappears. Cutting might be a last-ditch attempt if the growth is preventing the fish from feeding (eg over the mouth)

if the growth is on the tail-tip, you may want to try cutting that part of the fin off but VERY MINIMALLY, and don't risk damaging the meaty muscular part at all if the growth is near the flesh of the tail. Healthy fish can regrow damaged fins quite fast (eg from nipping by other fish) but the flesh is another matter.

Thanks very much for the info and advise provided. Fish is still eating well. I will monitor closely on it and if it gets worse maybe will take your suggestion and cut it off. But that's last resort because it will really stress the fellow out. I am hoping that it will boost up its own immunity and heal. Fingers cross. Thanks again. Appreciate your advise.
