purple tang not feeding

Recommended Posts

Actually for tang it is better to get a specimen that are already feeding before you buy it. The best way is actually to place it in a tank without other fishes, you can train it to feed very easily in this way. But I assume that you have already place it into the main tank liao right? Don't try to catch it out, you will stress it as well as other fishes. The things you can do now is to try to feed and see how it behaves, for most cases, the fish tend to be at the bottom of the tank, and it will not dare to eat due to your 2 other tangs. No much choice here, try feed nori, feed henry food, feed pellets (I find that Jireh pellets are quite useful in coaxing fishes to eat, JMO). Tell us how it goes in a few days time, if it is still not feeding, the best way would be to purchase red bamboo and place it in the main tank, I'm sure it will nip on it when it is hungry, as that is their natural food.

Hi,

Agree with mansiz on using red bamboo. I bought a YT a month ago and it was already quite thin. It also refused to eat pellets/seaweed/mysis.....

Thus, I bought 3 red bamboo and left them in the tank. It started to graze bit by bit. After 2 weeks, it now also join the other tangs and has been eating pellets. All my tangs also previously "acclimatize" to eating pellets, by using the red bamboo.

Quick go buy some today!! : )
