Adding divider to sump?

But you are going to create a water fall effect or just plainly divide into compartment? With those plastic divider (fresh water type), you cannot create the water fall effect because there are holes and the side of the divider have gaps also. If you are going to put sand, it would be a problem too. Best is to silicon it if you intend to put sand.

Actually it depends on how much you want them to loop, if you want complete stopage of flow to the other comparement, then you sure have to silicon it. And if you want to silicon, you have it drain off all water and dry the sump tank 1st. But can I know the reason why you want to stop the flow? Actually flow is good for sump.

Not to stop the flow but to redirect it to the bottom of the sump. DOC tends to remain at the bottom of the sump. Therefore, I'm thinking of refirecting the flow to the bottom to provide a better circulation so that my skimmer feeding pump will be able to pick up more DOC!

Logical?

Unless your sump is as large as 6 feet or above, if not I don't think you have to create all the trouble to fix up a glass. I don't think the divided part which you intend to do and the whole sump does have much difference, or another way is to increase the power of your power head for your sump (if you don't have a powerhead for your sump, just add one will do), get brands like maxis (don't know if I spelled it correctly), it won't create much temp increase. Drip kalkwasser if you can manage the PH well. I realise that whenever I drip kalkwasser, the skimmer efficiency increase a lot.
