Your experience with Doctor Fish

Recommended Posts

Just 2 hours after releasing my doctor fish into my FOWLR tank, I had to rescue it from a hole in a live rock, and it got stuck in another hole, but managed to release itself.

Now it is missing again.

Is it common for doctor fish to do that and is there anyway to prevent it?

Don't worry.Doctor fish just wanna hide.

Most fish wanna hide 1 corner before they will really come out to have a look in their area. Some fish love to hide in sand , some hide in rock some funny fish like doctor hide with head in only :P so no need to pull him out. haha... just like Ostriach.

yes bro, they hide because they are afraid as this is their 1st day in a new environment. They will dart into a hole everyday when they sleep and they will create a cocoon when asleep. So please do not think that it is dead or something. It is perfectly normal for them to stuck in a hole. Thats their natural behaviour. So don't try to pull them out.

its the way they are captured and whether they are feeding when you get them from the LFS.

Your biggest hurdle is to get them to feed, and once that's achieved, the rest is pretty easy..

mine has been with me for almost a year now.. they are solitary fish unless they are paired up .. so don't more than 1.. even when they are similarly colored or shape .. they will attack the new comer
