Hi Guys,

Going to start a 3x2x2 marine tank. :D

Like to seek the bros' recommendation/suggestion as I start up the tank

So far already have the following equipments:

Tank Specs: 3x2x2

Sump: 30"(L)x20"(W)x15"(H)

Chiller: Resun CL650

Skimmer: AquaMedic Turboflotor 1000 Multi SL with PH2500 pump

Pumps: Aquabee UP3000, Sicce Extrema

Wavemaker: Seio 620 (maybe adding another Seio 820 :D )

First must do up the pipings.

Overflow Dia: 25mm, Return: 20mm

Thinking of using the aquabee UP3000 as return pump, with the tee-off from the Chiller (using Extrema).

Intend to do a inverted 'T' piping at the back wall of the tank with rainbar spraying to prevent algae growth.

Can the above work? Are the return & chiller pumps powerful enf?

The return pump you can tell when you start up the whole set up. Your overflow is those inbuilt one right? When you start up the return pump, water starts to flow down into the overflow, if you heard loud noises (not the water fall sound), like pop pop pop, means your return pump is not good enough. There should not be too much air for the downwards pipe o take in, if not you will have endless nights, loud noises. Chiller no problem, but be sure to service it annually to increase its life span. If you intend to make two power head to work together on the main tank, I don't think thats necessary, unless you are keeping something that requires high flow rate. Just one power hear will be enough. And most probably you will be placing it higher up instead of lower down, if not your sand bed will fly and some parts of bare bottom will occurs. lus you have the return pump, it creates some sorts of small currents as well. Chiller pump does not have to be too strong. As you should understand that Resun chiller chiller water by letting the water run through a very cold rod, if your water flow rate is too fast, it could be a negative factor. you can take a look at the box or the guide and follow the flow rate for the chiller.

Hmm, after browsing at the picture you drawn, I've got a doubt, how come your return pipe goes straight down to the bottom of your main display tank?

Thanks bro mansiz for your reply :) Maybe to address some of the potential problems you highlighted :)

1. The return pump you can tell when you start up the whole set up. Your overflow is those inbuilt one right? When you start up the return pump, water starts to flow down into the overflow, if you heard loud noises (not the water fall sound), like pop pop pop, means your return pump is not good enough. I intend to make a durso standpipe (30mm pipe to 25mm bulkhead). Hopefully can cut down on the noises. Understand it takes some fine tuning on the hole size at the end cap. haha.

2. Then I probably try with the seio620 first. If not strong enf, then will add in another wavemaker. Intend to use Grade 1 sand. Was told Grade 0 is too fine, will create a sand storm..haha

Will adjust the chiller pump lower for a slower flow through the chiller.

Just worry that the aquabee up3000 might not be powerful enough for the return as well as to create the 'flushing' effect in the main tank.

3. Hmm, after browsing at the picture you drawn, I've got a doubt, how come your return pipe goes straight down to the bottom of your main display tank?

The overflow chamber in the main tank comes with 2 holes, one 25mm, one 20mm. Was contemplating whether to use the 20mm as spare overflow pipe. But if that's the case, I would have to route my return pipe outside the cabinet, which can be unsightly. Hence in the end, plan to use it as return line instead :)
