...normal parasites...but powder blue probably stressed and became weak over time...

I've been told that powder blues are very susceptible to this kind of infection. I've been through 3 powder blues, all died the same way. My 4th powder blue have survived the last 4 weeks and actively eating pellets with garlic. No white spots for now. keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

Hi Chris, sorry to hear of ur powder blue. most powder tangs are ich magnet. They are also more prone to outbeark of white spots and easily stress in a new environment. :(

Most reefers here actually lost the fish due the white spot n ich. The percentage of keeping a powder tang is uaually 50-50 unless u might adopt this few methods as introduce by our fellow seniors here :heh:

Here's the link ich N white spots on fishes

Its quite a long thread. Hope this info helps B)

I have tried 6 PBT b4 the success of the current one, which is now 1 year plus. My opinion:

1) Try to keep in bigger tank so they have more swimming area

2) Provide go water current

3) Have a powerful skimmer

4) Quarantine new fish

5) UV or ozone

6) Garlic

Then keep finger cross & pray hard it will thrive :)

Good luck!

Chris, how old is your tank? IMO, if your tank is not mature enough. Ich problem will always persist.

Not trying to boast here. I have started reefing since '95 but just join SRC couple months back. From my experience, a matured tank has a higher survival rate and lesser ich issue.

Will suggest you wait till your tank is about at least 9 months old before trying any powder tangs.

how to train them to eat when they don't eat?

generally i feel that fishes dont eat immediately when introduce to the tank because they do not regconise "tank food".

so maybe to train them to eat can either put them into a betta box and get the fishes to know that food is food before releasing them into main tank... B)

to mi , ich is there since day one... the only proven method is hypo and copper which i do not want to practice as it need a lot of work. all my fishes are with mi for quite a long time, just feed them good stuff and they will be immune to the ich. let them fight it off themselves.

feed garlicguard mysis/brine

ocean nuitrition pellet 1 & 2

i employ UV

introduce cleaner shrimp ? < this one i am not too sure, my cleaner dun work anymore.

Dear Bros,

I too came across this white spot problem and at least 7 died. Blue tang yellow tang and powder.

Recently i also bought 1 yellow tang and 2 blue tang. After the 2nd day found white spot all over my blue tang and white spot on yellow tang fins.

I caught them and put in another tank:

1) and bring down my salt to 1.019.

2) Add itc medicine.

3) Soak shrimps on garlic juice for 5 mins for feeding.

4) Change water every day 15 per

5) Fresh water bath for 4 mins once a day for ONLY 3 days.

Sad to say my yellow tang didnt make it. But my 2 blue tang white spots

are gone. They look normal but will keep them seperated for at least 2 months.

Cheers.
