Question about Waterflow

Hi brothers,

I need advice regarding the waterflow in tank. I am planning to upgrade my powerhead because I keep finding alot of detrius collected on the rocks and sands.

It is getting frustrated to keep stirring the sands so frequently. I do hope a better powerhead can cover more areas.

Just would like to know what is a good waterflow rate for a powerhead in a 4FT tank?

Thank you. :lol::thanks:

For a 4 footer, a water turnover of 5000 litres is desirable. I wouldn't rely solely on return pump for water circulation as it is quite impossible to achieve that. Having wavemakers will help solve your problem. When it comes to wavemakers, Tunze is still the best... Seio is a value for money alternative.

But before you rush out and get yourself some powerful Tunze Streams, make sure you sand bed is not too fine... controllable Streams such as 6100 will come handy as you can adjust the intensity accordingly.

On the side note... stirring your sand bed manually may not be a good thing as you will release large amount of toxic into the tank water. Try not to do that... let your starfishes, dollar sands, snails, hermits, sea cukes & etc. do the job instead.

Tank 60x40x40 Optiwhite Glass Tank Sump Elos 500 w/ Tunze Overflow Protein Skimmer Skimz Kone SK1 Return Pump Hydor Seltz L30 Wavemaker Hydor K1 Illumination 150W + 2 T5 Chiller Arctica 1/5hp w/ Aquabee 1000 Water Top-up Tunze Osmolator Dosing Pumps Grotech 3-Channels Calcium Reactor Deltec PF 501 Computer Aquatronica

Thanks brothers! :thanks:

Due to budget, I am thinking of getting SEIO M1100 - 1100gph/4400lph. I do hope that is good enough.

But you have pointed out something important...I do use fine sands for my sandbed! Thus I guess Tunze 6060 will be too powerful I guess.

Does anyone know where to get sand dollars too? :erm::thanks:
