They are susceptible to a lot of diseases.

You have to check if they are quarantined well before selecting a healthy specimen.

When you do... they can last a long time.

how to check if they are quarantined well ??

btw ... i select my clown from a tank holding 100++ over of common clowns....

You can dose Octozin in your quarantine tank when you first bought your clowns to prevent any disease. It will treat clown disease.

Yes, you should look for LFS that hold good common clowns. One of them is Marine Life. Henry do have some good common clowns from time to time. Don't buy them from farms. I notice that farms like to order a big batch of common clowns, even more than 200 pieces, and due to their low pricing, they will just junk them into a small tank or maybe junk them all into a big blue plastic tub. The best way is to quarantine them before you intro them to the main display tank. Many claim that common clowns are the easiest clown to keep. But in fact, it is one of the most difficult clown to keep, as they are always ship poorly. Maroon/tomato/clarkii are on the other way, much more easier.

hey bro.. my clowns share the same fate as urs man

my 1st pair i got it from farmway 1 or 2 (the other side of pasir ris farm)

one air conditioned LFS.. (some reefers might noe each one i am refering to)

i bought 2 golden common clowns @ $2 each

last me for abt 1 month each then MIA one by one within the main tank..

not even the corpse could be found..

similarly i bought my 3rd common clown from the farm, also $1 each!

i chose a BIG fat one, ( 3-4inches guy)

last me for abt 3days..

it decided to jumped outta the water and ended its life

myb cannot tahan my damsel's irritation??

saddened by it! i decided not to buy anymore clowns..

so i suggest if u realli is keen on clowns

get it from other reefers when they decomm or WTS..

might be healthier than those in the farms..

to me, buying from farm is always cheaper

but its kinda gambling with it

i bought a twin spotted goby

juz one nite only.. no where to be seen!!

mystery no one can explain!!

haha..

Hi folks;

No fish is esay to keep with exception of demsel with a record breaking tolerance to most undesirable water condition.

Even though we test our water with all available test kit showing good results, fishes still perish. Reason being that the water is far from being conditioned. We can only guess the reason. We also took the risk by adding more fishes.

When I first started, I kill more fishes than I can imagine, one fish a week not knowing the reason. Even the common clown.

Comparing now and six years ago, I learn some things that test kits cannot tell you. LR and reef will need to experience growth before you can say water is matured. I do look for sign as:

1. mini Tube worms in LR, if you dun see any or not propagating beware.

2. macro algae, add a little if you can, if it does not grow or even dies out. Beware.

3. Pods - It takes me 3 months to see the propagate after seeding

These are my visual measurement of the water.

Equipment:

30G Corner Tank with 10G Sump, 2 x 24W artinic T5, 1 x 24W 10K, 1x 24W 20K, 3" Grade 0 sand & Live rocks, Activated Carbon, Bio-home, 2 x Seio M620, Hailea 1/2HP Chiller, Redsea Pro Skimmer

Live Stock:

Turbo Snail x 1, Green Mandarin Dragonet X 2, Blue Tang X 2, True percular x 2, 1 x Algae Bleenie, Clarke clown x 2

Reef:

1 x 2" Blue maxima, Red/Brown/Purple Mushroom (Discosoma), Pink Ricordea yuma, A little colony Brown/Green common Zoanthus, Red/Pink/Green US Zoanthus, Eagle-eye Zoathus, 14 Branch Goniopora Pandoraensis, 1 Starburst Polyps, 3 + 2 Branch Frogspawn, 4 Blasto, palythoa, Cheato

RIPs (Since June 2005):

1. Sabae clown (KO by Clarke clown) 2. 1 branch melted frogspawn 4 branch 3. Golden maxima (Ripe the base off rock by me) 4. Algae Bleenie x 2 (Starvation) 5. Blue Maxima x 1, 2 x Maxima, 1 x frogspawn, rics (Overtemp...)

clown fishes can fight alot for territory, use to keep normal false clown, skunk and tomato clown.. they don't really get along very well.. as such i sold away my skunk and tomato clown to another reefer.. now left with a false and a true perc which indeed they get along very well...
